Shanmugam.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">\u201cSingapore\u2019s position on this has been consistent since 1965: Such interference is unacceptable. It is an absolute no,\u201d he said in posts on his social media accounts. \u201cThat position has not changed \u2013 and it will be firmly enforced.\u201d  <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">His comments come after Ms Fadiah Nadwa Fikri \u2013 a Malaysian woman who had completed a PhD at the National University of Singapore in 2025 \u2013 was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/politics\/malaysian-who-did-phd-in-spore-banned-from-re-entry-after-engaging-in-political-activism-here-mha?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><span class=\"font-body-baseline-regular inline\" data-testid=\"paragraph-test-id\">denied re-entry to the Republic after engaging in political activism here.<\/span><\/a>  <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Ms Fadiah has been a member of two Malaysian advocacy groups, Lawyers for Liberty and the Centre to Combat Corruption and Cronyism. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">In 2020, Malaysian media reported that she was being investigated for alleged sedition and the wrongful use of network services and facilities for a Twitter post that encouraged people to join a political rally.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">She was at the time under another sedition investigation for an article she had written on the monarchy in the wake of Malaysia\u2019s 2018 General Election. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The outcome of both investigations has not been reported.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">In posts on social media platform X on March 22 and 23, Ms Fadiah said she was banned from entering Singapore after trying to do so on March 22.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Noting that immigration officers could not disclose why she had been banned, Ms Fadiah said she had attempted to make the trip here as she had been invited to deliver a guest lecture.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">On March 27, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said Ms Fadiah had encouraged the youth here to \u201cadopt her brand of radical advocacy\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The ministry said that she encouraged them to go beyond protests, mobilise students and different communities in Singapore, and undertake disruptive and violent actions in support of specific causes.
