Tesla has a new variant of its popular Model Y SUV. It\u2019s called the Model Y L<\/b>, and it stands out from the rest of the range by having a third row of seats.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Keen readers would probably have guessed by now that the \u201cL\u201d in Model Y L stands for \u201clong wheelbase\u201d. Indeed, this car\u2019s wheelbase has been stretched by 150mm. Overall length is now just shy of 5m<\/b> \u2013 4.969m to be exact.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The styling hasn\u2019t changed much. In fact, if you don\u2019t look closely, you might not even realise you are looking at a Model Y with three rows of seats. The visual giveaways are the integrated rear spoiler and the slightly longer three-quarters panel. Customers can also spec their Model Y L with the variant-exclusive Cosmic Silver paint.<\/p>\n The Model Y L appears to be a strict 6-seater. It\u2019s not quite as plush as some of its rivals, but they are still the most comfortable seats in the house.\u00a0<\/p>\n Passengers in the third row are not forgotten. Apart from getting dedicated aircon vents, there are also USB-C charging ports and cup holders in the back.\u00a0The seats in the third row can recline as well.<\/p>\n Even with the third row seats up, Tesla says the Model Y L will have 420L of boot space<\/b>. This can be expanded to over 2,500L when you fold both the second and third row seats down. And if that\u2019s not enough, it also has a 116L frunk.<\/p>\n The driving environment is typical Tesla, which is to say it\u2019s devoid of buttons.<\/p>\n Photo: Tesla<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n Those concerned about performance will be happy to know that the Model Y L will be offered with dual motors. This means a power output of 378kW (507hp) and 590nm of torque<\/b>. It can get from 0 to 100km\/h in just 5 seconds.
