Even though the MacBook Neo is excellent and punches well above its weight, it is not perfect and it has its limitations. I\u2019ll list some now.<\/p>\n<p class=\"_base_1s8rd_1 _default_1s8rd_12\">The lack of high-speed USB 3 ports could be problematic.\u00a0<b>The Neo\u00a0really\u00a0only\u00a0has\u00a0one port for power and data<\/b>.\u00a0This means most people will probably need to get a USB-C hub to make it work as a primary system.\u00a0The second USB-C port, which only supports USB\u00a02, is really only\u00a0good\u00a0for peripherals like keyboards and mice, and I\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0know that many people\u00a0who\u00a0still use wired versions of them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"_base_1s8rd_1 _default_1s8rd_12\">For most people, the Neo will not be lacking in performance.\u00a0It has more than enough\u00a0grunt\u00a0for everyday tasks like emails, spreadsheets, and browsing the web.\u00a0Even editing high-resolution photos and the odd 4K clip didn\u2019t pose too much of a problem. <b>Where it starts struggling is when you have many apps opened at once<\/b>. The way it manages memory is remarkable, but it\u2019s not magic. You will hit a wall at some point when there\u2019s only 8GB of memory to play around with. I certainly did when I was using the Neo to edit photos. It can drive up to two 6K or 4K displays at a minimum of 60Hz. The Neo can only support a single 4K display at\u00a0up to\u00a060Hz. It can do more, and it\u2019s noticeably faster.\u00a0There are numerous examples of professionals who rely\u00a0only\u00a0on the Air for creative work,\u00a0like\u00a0photo and video editing.\u00a0So, despite the name, it\u2019s a very competent machine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"_base_1s8rd_1 _default_1s8rd_12\">But what truly sets the Air apart from the Neo is its ability to multitask. T<b>he combination of the M5 chip and larger 16GB of memory means the Air can multitask effortlessly<\/b>. On the Air, I noticed none of the slowdowns or hiccups that I experienced with the Neo.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"_base_1s8rd_1 _default_1s8rd_12\">The ease with which the Air chews through apps also means it\u2019ll likely be a better investment in terms of longevity. I recently updated my M1 MacBook Pro to macOS Tahoe, and it works like a dream. Furthermore, there are countless anecdotes of users still using their M1 machines to this day and feel that they are completely adequate. Will the Neo enjoy this type of longevity? It\u2019s significantly more powerful, offers better connectivity, and has a higher quality display. Admittedly, its price tag is considerably higher, but it more than justifies its price tag.
