From his days as a polytechnic student to an undergrad now at SUSS<\/a>, Dennis Chew<\/a> has consistently impressed us with his tenacity and willingness to learn.<\/p>\n Enrolling in university at 52 years old, the Love 972 jock has gone the path not many would have taken. Respect.<\/p>\n But who would’ve thought, for the longest time, Dennis never felt proud of himself?<\/p>\n In a recent 8world interview, Chinese news anchor Yang Zhenhua candidly told Dennis that people respect and admire him for his successful career and do not care about his qualifications.<\/p>\n Before going to Ngee Ann Polytechnic to study Chinese Media & Communication in 2022, Dennis was an O-Level graduate, which he previously admitted to 8days.sg he had \u201cscored very badly for.\u201d<\/p>\n Now, he’s enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts in Chinese Studies course under SUSS’s School of Humanities and Behavioural Sciences as a part-time student.<\/p>\n “But I don’t respect myself,” the jock replied. “Beyond just fulfilling a dream, I’ve actually struggled with insecurity for a long time.”<\/p>\n Truth is, despite his numerous accolades \u2014 including one Best Programme Host and a Best Comedy Actor win \u2014 the Star Awards<\/a> All-Time Favourite Artiste felt that he “didn’t deserve to stand [on that stage].”<\/p>\n The jock recalled that he had only passed his O-Level Chinese and had been absent for all his other subjects.<\/p>\n “Because I knew I wouldn’t pass, why waste the time? But I didn’t expect to carry this shame for years after joining this industry.”<\/p>\n According to Dennis’ professor at SUSS, the jock is now almost always the first to arrive in class and has an evidently “strong desire to learn”.<\/p>\n Dennis, on the other hand, says he feels like a child again, who’s absorbing knowledge “like a sponge” in school.<\/p>\n “As long as I keep learning, I feel happy,” he quips.<\/p>\n His mother echoed his sentiments. “There’s no use forcing him, what matters is that he really wants it himself,” gushed Mama Chew.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
