<b>Nothing<\/b> has done with the new <b>Phone (4a)<\/b><b> series<\/b>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"_base_1s8rd_1 _default_1s8rd_12\">Here\u2019s what\u2019s new with the <b>Nothing Phone (4a)<\/b> and <b>Phone (4a) Pro<\/b>, as well as our thoughts on these midrange phones after having tried them out at the local launch event.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"nothing-phone-4a-\" class=\"_subHeading1_1k87u_111 (4a)<\/p>\n<p>Photo: HWZ<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"_base_1s8rd_1 _default_1s8rd_12\">Nothing Phone (4a) is a midrange device that retains much of its predecessor&#8217;s essence, but the brand has given it upgrades that ensure it can stand on its own. <\/p>\n<p class=\"_base_1s8rd_1 _default_1s8rd_12\">Its polycarbonate frame comes reinforced with front and back <b>Corning Gorilla Glass 7i<\/b> instead of last year\u2019s Panda Glass. <\/p>\n<p class=\"_base_1s8rd_1 _default_1s8rd_12\">The screen also gets slightly larger (<b>6.78-inch<\/b>) with more pixel density (440 PPI), while still supporting niceties like a <b>120Hz<\/b> refresh rate, HDR10+ support and up to <b>4,500 nits<\/b> of peak brightness. <\/p>\n<p class=\"_base_1s8rd_1 _default_1s8rd_12\">In our brief experience trying the phone, it was perfectly legible under bright afternoon sunlight and comfortable to use even in dimmer environments. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"_figure_wioo3_1\"><img Bar<\/b> replacing the old Glyph Interface that surrounded the camera island. This Glyph Bar has only <b>six individually addressable zones<\/b> instead of 26, but it now gets up to <b>40% brighter <\/b>than the Glyph Interface on the Phone (3a) with smoother diffusion and more even illumination. <\/p>\n<p class=\"_base_1s8rd_1 _default_1s8rd_12\">Internally, it\u2019s running on the new(er) Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 processor, with UFS 3.1 storage instead of UFS 2.2. The RAM is still LPDDR4X, but we suppose that Nothing needed to give the Pro model more pizzazz to justify the price difference. <\/p>\n<p class=\"_base_1s8rd_1 _default_1s8rd_12\">While the main and ultrawide cameras remain the same, the telephoto camera on the Phone (4a) gets an upgrade to <b>3.5x optical zoom and 70x Ultra Zoom<\/b>. We\u2019ve tested the cameras briefly, and you can see sample shots below that demonstrate the different focal lengths.<\/p>\n<p class=\"_base_1s8rd_1 _default_1s8rd_12\">The battery also gets a boost to <b>5,080mAh<\/b>, while retaining 50W wired charging.  Nothing didn\u2019t neglect to give it\u00a0<b>IP64<\/b>\u00a0dust and water resistance, and it will come with Android 16 out of the box. Now, the Pro chassis is f<b>ully aluminium<\/b>, as it has had enough of using scratch-resistant plastic coating on the exterior. In the palm, it looks and feels much better. It also received the same Corning Gorilla Glass 7i glass.<\/p>\n<p class=\"_base_1s8rd_1 _default_1s8rd_12\">The screen gets a bump to <b>6.83 inches<\/b>, which marks the first time the base and Pro models in the (a) series get different screen sizes. Nothing parked its flagship Glyph Matrix (also on the Nothing Phone 3) onto the Phone (4a) Pro. <\/p>\n<p class=\"_base_1s8rd_1 _default_1s8rd_12\">While the <b>Phone (4a) Pro\u2019s Glyph Matrix<\/b> is larger and brighter than the Phone (3)\u2019s, the LED count is sparser, with only <b>137 mini-LEDs<\/b> [compared to 489 on the Phone (3)]. There\u2019s also no Glyph Button to interact with the Glyph Matrix, and there are fewer Glyph Toys available out of the box due to the lack of the button.<\/p>\n<p class=\"_base_1s8rd_1 _default_1s8rd_12\">Notably, the transparent aesthetic that Nothing is famous for is almost non-existent on this phone. It\u2019s been confined to the camera bump, with the rest of the phone covered up. It\u2019s feels like it\u2019s Nothing\u2019s way of toning down the phone into a less flashy, mass-market option. <\/p>\n<p class=\"_base_1s8rd_1 _default_1s8rd_12\">The Nothing Phone (4a) Pro gets <b>LPDDR5X<\/b> RAM, although storage is still stuck on UFS 3.1. Powering it all is the <b>Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 4<\/b>, which offers another differentiating factor from the Phone (4a) and is a much more logical decision than offering the same chip in both phones. <\/p>\n<p class=\"_base_1s8rd_1 _default_1s8rd_12\">The main and ultrawide cameras remain the same as well, with a new periscope telephoto camera that offers 3.5x optical zoom and up to 140x digital zoom. Check out some sample photos below.<\/p>\n<p class=\"_base_1s8rd_1 _default_1s8rd_12\">The Phone (4a) Pro gets the same <b>5,080mAh<\/b> battery and 50W wired charging as the Phone (4a).
