It looks like the Nintendo Switch 2 might already be getting a revision, but not in a way that many of us would have imagined.<\/p>\n
According to a report by Japanese outlet Nikkei, Nintendo is said to be working on an updated version of its current-gen handheld with a user-replaceable battery, though this change appears to be driven largely by upcoming European Union regulations rather than a typical mid-cycle refresh. (The Verge<\/span> has reported this separately)<\/p>\n The EU\u2019s \u201cright to repair\u201d<\/b> rules will require consumer electronics sold in the region to feature easily replaceable batteries by 2027, and that includes gaming consoles. For Nintendo, that likely means reworking the Switch 2\u2019s current design, which, like the original Switch, uses a built-in battery that\u2019s not easily swappable by non-professionals.<\/p>\n The reported revision isn\u2019t just limited to the console itself either. The updated model is also expected to extend this replaceable battery approach to its Joy-Con controllers, which actually makes sense.<\/p>\n What\u2019s less clear though, is whether this revised model will remain a Europe-only variant.
