Evolution has been a staple of Pok\u00e9mon since the franchise\u2019s beginnings. From raising your little Charmander into a Charizard to using a team of all different Eeveelutions, evolving Pok\u00e9mon goes hand-in-hand with the series\u2019 other gameplay pillars, like catching wild Pok\u00e9mon and battling trainers. Because of that, you\u2019d think every Pok\u00e9mon would belong to an evolution line, but plenty don\u2019t.<\/p>\n

30 years in, dozens of Pok\u00e9mon are mere one-off Pok\u00e9mon who don\u2019t evolve. Few things are more fun than pitting Pok\u00e9mon against one another, so let\u2019s sit back and rank the 10 best one-and-done Pok\u00e9mon. This ranking is, of course, the product of one Pok\u00e9 Fan\u2019s mind \u2014 unlike Polygon\u2019s ranking of the top 100 Pok\u00e9mon that dared to be democratic and capture the wide-ranging opinions of our team.<\/p>\n

A few caveats: No Legendaries or Mythical Pok\u00e9mon were considered, because their inclusions would be too obvious. No Paradox Pok\u00e9mon either, because I love them too much and they\u2019d claim nearly every spot. Mega Evolutions don\u2019t count as a disqualifying mark; they\u2019re more of a battle gimmick than wholly new evolution. (If anything, Mega Evolutions enforce the idea that these are one and done Pok\u00e9mon as only the final \u2018mon of an evolution line can Mega Evolve.)<\/p>\n

Without further ado, here are the 10 best Pok\u00e9mon who don\u2019t evolve.<\/p>\n

Plenty of people would deride Klefki for being an object Pok\u00e9mon. I am not one of those people \u2014 object Pok\u00e9mon rock (especially when they\u2019re ghosts). Klefki is adorable; a sentient key ring with a surprised Pikachu face. All it wants to do is help! (And steal keys, depending on the Pok\u00e9dex entry.) \u201cThis Pok\u00e9mon is constantly collecting keys. Entrust a Klefki with important keys, and the Pok\u00e9mon will protect them no matter what,\u201d reads its Pok\u00e9mon Sword<\/em> Pok\u00e9dex entry.<\/p>\n

While Ditto may not lead your team into battle, it is wildly useful across games. Stick Ditto and another Pok\u00e9mon in a day care, or just let them out in camp like in Pok\u00e9mon Scarlet<\/em> and Violet<\/em>, and let nature take its course. Soon enough, you\u2019ll have an egg or six. Ditto has also taken on a starring role outside of the mainline games in recent years; it\u2019s a weird-ass human-like henchman in the Detective Pikachu<\/em> film and recently starred in Pok\u00e9mon Pokopia<\/em>, one of the Switch 2\u2019s best and best-selling games.<\/p>\n
