When the Hong Kong political crime thriller Cold War<\/em><\/span> was released in 2012, it arguably shook up the market.<\/div>\n
Here was a big-budget actioner helmed by two industry veterans \u2013 Longman Leung Lok-man and Sunny Luk Kim-ching \u2013 making their directing debut, and headlined by a cast of some of Hong Kong\u2019s biggest names such as Tony Leung Ka-fai<\/span>, Aaron Kwok Fu-shing<\/span> and Andy Lau Tak-wah<\/span>.<\/div>\n
But if the directors were still unrecognisable, the film\u2019s producer was not. Bill Kong Chi-keung, known for producing hits such as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon<\/em><\/span> (2000), House of Flying Daggers<\/em> (2004) and A Guilty Conscience<\/em><\/span> (2023), is a name that gets things going and deals done.<\/div>\n
Not surprisingly, when actors Hugh Bonneville, known for Downton Abbey<\/em><\/span>, and Game of Thrones<\/em>\u2019 Aidan Gillen were first approached about the possibility of appearing in a prequel, Cold War<\/em> 1994<\/em> \u2013 the third film in the franchise, after Cold War 2<\/em><\/span> (2016) \u2013 Kong\u2019s role caught their attention.<\/div>\n
\u201cBill was the name I did recognise initially,\u201d Gillen told the South China Morning Post. \u201cAnd I obviously was familiar with his work. So to be coming here under his wing, we knew we\u2019d be in good hands, I think.\u201d<\/p>\n

The ensemble cast of Cold War<\/em> 1994<\/em> was announced at the Hong Kong International Film & TV Market (Filmart) on March 18. The new film is directed by Longman Leung and stars Daniel Wu Yin-cho<\/span> and Terrance Lau Chun-him alongside series returnees Tony Leung, Kwok and Chow Yun-fat<\/span>.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
