{"id":37392,"date":"2026-03-19T00:19:11","date_gmt":"2026-03-18T16:19:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=37392"},"modified":"2026-03-19T00:19:11","modified_gmt":"2026-03-18T16:19:11","slug":"duo-to-be-charged-over-illegal-pmd-modification-services","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=37392","title":{"rendered":"Duo to be charged over illegal PMD modification services"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">SINGAPORE \u2013<!-- --> The director and store manager of a shop in Yishun that sells mobility devices are set to be charged on March 19 over allegedly providing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/politics\/new-bill-proposes-stricter-rules-for-mobility-devices-tougher-penalties-for-illegally-altering?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><span class=\"font-body-baseline-regular inline\" data-testid=\"paragraph-test-id\">illegal modification services<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The Land Transport Authority (LTA) said in a statement on March 18 that they each face one count of illegally modifying a personal mobility device (PMD) by fitting an extra battery to the device. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The shop \u2013 YY E-Bike \u2013 was allegedly found to have illegally modified a PMD as part of its business operations during an enforcement operation by LTA on Oct 29, 2025. The alteration made the PMD non-compliant for use on public paths, investigations later showed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Two other non-compliant devices were found in the shop. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">YY E-Bike was previously investigated in 2022 for displaying non-compliant devices for sale, the authority said, adding that it had<!-- --> <!-- -->also received feedback that the retailer was allegedly providing illegal modification services. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">In 2025, there were about 90 offences involving retailers that included the sale of non-compliant active mobility devices (AMDs), said LTA.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">From June 1, it will be an offence to have non-UL2272 certified e-scooters.
