After months of speculation, leaks, and more than two years of Xbox console exclusivity, Bethesda Game Studios is bringing its 2023 sci-fi role-playing game Starfield<\/em> to PlayStation 5. Starfield<\/em>‘s PS5 version will be released on April 7, alongside the “biggest update to the game since launch,” Bethesda Softworks announced Tuesday.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The PS5 release of Starfield<\/em> will take advantage of the PlayStation console’s distinctive features. The game will support the DualSense controller’s light bar, adaptive triggers, and touch pad. On PlayStation 5 Pro consoles, Starfield<\/em> will feature two graphics options: a Pro Performance Mode to prioritize a higher-target frame rate or Pro Visual Mode.<\/p>\n Starfield<\/em>‘s leap to PS5 signals a shift for Bethesda, which became a first-party Xbox studio in 2021. In a 2020 interview with Kotaku, before Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda was finalized, then head of Xbox Phil Spencer said the company did not need to put The Elder Scrolls 6<\/em> on PlayStation to recoup that investment, suggesting games developed and published by Bethesda would be Xbox console exclusives. Starfield<\/em>‘s release bore that out, as did the 2024 release of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle<\/em> (which is also now on PS5). But in a 2025 interview with Save State Plus, Spencer would not rule out that Starfield<\/em> could come to PS5.<\/p>\n The base edition of Starfield<\/em>\u2019s PS5 version will cost $49.99, the same price as the Xbox Series X and Windows PC versions of the game going forward. A Premium Edition release for PS5 will also be available, both digitally and physically.<\/p>\n Bethesda Game Studios will release two major content updates for Starfield<\/em> on April 7: new story DLC expansion Terran Armada<\/em> and a free major update called Free Lanes. On review aggregation site OpenCritic, Starfield<\/em> has a top critic average score of 85.
