SINGAPORE \u2013 A 36-year-old man was arrested on March 15 for his suspected involvement in deliberately insulting the religion of another person.<\/p>\n
The police were alerted to an incident in Tampines Street 82 at about 3.40pm that day, when a handwritten note bearing offensive remarks about Islam were found pasted outside a residential unit, said the police in a statement on March 17.<\/p>\n
A piece of meat, believed to be pork, was found at the doorstep, the police added.<\/p>\n
The man was arrested the same day, the police said.<\/p>\n
He is expected to be charged in court on March 17.<\/p>\n
If found guilty, he may be jailed for up to five years, fined, or both.<\/p>\n
On Sept 27, 2025, a man was charged over his alleged involvement in the delivery of a parcel containing pork which was sent to a mosque.<\/p>\n
Bill Tan Keng Hwee, then 61, was charged with deliberately intending to harm the racial feelings of a person, according to a Sept 27 Straits Times report<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n He had allegedly mailed an envelope addressed to Masjid Al-Istiqamah in Serangoon, court documents indicated. The envelope contained a piece of pork and a note that read \u201chalal BaBi chop\u201d.<\/p>\n The police were alerted to the incident on Sept 24, and Tan was arrested the following day.<\/p>\n He was said to be involved in several similar cases at other mosques across the island.<\/p>\n In their March 17 statement, the police said they take a very serious view of acts that threaten Singapore\u2019s racial and religious harmony. <\/p>\n They added: \u201cAny person who makes remarks or acts in a manner which can cause ill will and hostility between different races or religious groups in Singapore will be dealt with firmly.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
