{"id":36855,"date":"2026-03-17T09:16:50","date_gmt":"2026-03-17T01:16:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=36855"},"modified":"2026-03-17T09:16:50","modified_gmt":"2026-03-17T01:16:50","slug":"super-rich-in-koreas-david-yong-allegedly-allowed-company-to-unlawfully-issue-over-1m-in-loans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=36855","title":{"rendered":"Super Rich In Korea\u2019s David Yong allegedly allowed company to unlawfully issue over $1m in loans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">SINGAPORE &#8211; <!-- -->Businessman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/who-is-singaporean-businessman-david-yong-from-netflix-show-super-rich-in-korea?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><span class=\"font-body-baseline-regular inline\" data-testid=\"paragraph-test-id\">David Yong, who was featured in Netflix<\/span><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/who-is-singaporean-businessman-david-yong-from-netflix-show-super-rich-in-korea?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><span class=\"font-body-baseline-regular inline\" data-testid=\"paragraph-test-id\"> <\/span><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/who-is-singaporean-businessman-david-yong-from-netflix-show-super-rich-in-korea?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><span class=\"font-body-baseline-regular inline\" data-testid=\"paragraph-test-id\">series Super Rich In Korea<\/span><\/a>, was handed two moneylending-related charges on March 16 after he allegedly allowed a company to issue more than $1.1 million in loans even though it was not authorised to do so.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Court documents stated that Yong, whose full name is\u00a0Yong Khung Lin, was the director of a company called Evergreen Assets Management at the time of the alleged offences.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The firm, which was later known as Evergreen GH, allegedly issued 16 loans to more than 10 parties between February 2020 and June 2023.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">On March 16, <!-- -->Yong, 38, was also charged with 10 counts of falsification of accounts. He allegedly committed these offences between 2019 and 2023.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">In all of these charges, he allegedly engaged in a conspiracy with one<!-- --> Thung Sai Fun<!-- --> to make multiple false entries to accounts belonging to Evergreen Assets Management and Evergreen GH.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Court documents did not disclose details about Thung.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Among other things, Yong is said to have worked together with Thung to commit one of the offences on or around Nov 25, 2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Thung then allegedly falsely stated in Evergreen Assets Management\u2019s 2019 financial statement that its total comprehensive income for that period was $911,203.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">In another instance on or around April 28, 2020, Thung allegedly falsely stated that the company\u2019s revenue was $15,365,042 in one of its 2020 financial statements.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Yong faces 17 charges in all, and his pre-trial conference will take place on May 8.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Yong was arrested three months after appearing in Super Rich In Korea\u00a0in\u00a0May 2024, in which he claimed to be \u201cSingapore\u2019s top 1 per cent super rich\u201d. He was charged in court two days following his arrest.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">He was charged with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/courts-crime\/david-yong-from-netflix-series-super-rich-in-korea-handed-4th-charge-offered-1m-bail?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><span class=\"font-body-baseline-regular inline\" data-testid=\"paragraph-test-id\">four counts of falsification of accounts that year,<\/span><\/a> and was handed a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/courts-crime\/super-rich-in-koreas-david-yong-given-additional-charge-linked-to-over-1000-promissory-notes?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><span class=\"font-body-baseline-regular inline\" data-testid=\"paragraph-test-id\">fifth charge in June 2025<\/span><\/a> after being accused of consenting to the offering of promissory notes by\u00a0Evergreen GRP Holdings between July 2023 and July 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">These notes, which are written and signed unconditional promises made by a borrower to pay a certain sum of money to a specified person or company, did not comply with requirements under the\u00a0Securities and Futures Act.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The police said in an earlier statement then that more than\u00a0$61 million\u00a0was raised from the issuance of more than 1,000 promissory notes that promised an annual interest of\u00a010 per cent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">In September 2025, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/super-rich-in-koreas-david-yong-fined-1k-for-holding-executive-business-appointment?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><span class=\"font-body-baseline-regular inline\" data-testid=\"paragraph-test-id\">Yong \u2013 who was a partner at Yong, Seow &amp; Lim Legal as at April 2024 \u2013 was fined\u00a0$1,000\u00a0by the\u00a0Law Society of Singapore\u00a0council<\/span><\/a> for holding an executive appointment in a business entity.
