Half of that initial announcement was about Super Resolution, where upscaled scenes now had reduced ghosting, smearing and flickering. However, the other half was notably held back from release: Dynamic Multi Frame Generation.

A few months later, at Game Developers Conference, Nvidia has announced a release date for it: 31 March for RTX 50 series cards.

To get you up to speed, rather than constantly inserting frames to every scene, Dynamic Multi Frame Generation would now adjust the frame multiplier depending on how graphically intense the scene is. The greater the workload on your GPU, the more frames added to compensate, and vice versa.

The frame multiplier has also been increased to 6x, up from the 4x of DLSS 4; it now means that DLSS can generate up to five frames for every frame rendered.

The cap for the multi frame generator has been increased to 6x.

Screenshot: Nvidia GeForce YouTube channel.

In addition, Nvidia have also announced a list of upcoming games which will support DLSS 4.5, including the new multi-frame generation, upon release. These include 007 First Light, Control Resonant and Star Wars: Galactic Racer, among others. Some existing games will also be upgraded to DLSS 4.5, notably War Thunder and Battlefield 6.

If you own an RTX 50-series card, on 31 March, you can opt in to the beta to get the DLSS 4.5 Dynamic Multi Frame Generation and 6x multiplier mode by going to Settings > About in the Nvidia App. Do make sure that your Game Ready Drivers are at least on version 595.79 WHQL, though.

Nvidia did not mention when the new DLSS 4.5 features would be released officially.

Back in January, we covered Nvidia’s new DLSS 4.5 upscaler, which was released for RTX cards during CES.
