{"id":36628,"date":"2026-03-16T12:28:45","date_gmt":"2026-03-16T04:28:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=36628"},"modified":"2026-03-16T12:28:45","modified_gmt":"2026-03-16T04:28:45","slug":"hdb-ev-fast-charging-hubs-ready-by-2027","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=36628","title":{"rendered":"HDB EV fast-charging hubs ready by 2027"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cassette.sphdigital.com.sg\/image\/hardwarezone\/0188c706350b14c332fb4608496977dfcdb50d936f5933ef0f30c478a97e0de4\" \/><\/p>\n<div xmlns:default=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\">\n<p class=\"_base_1s8rd_1 _default_1s8rd_12\">The first of six new\u00a0fast-charging hubs for electric vehicles (EV)\u00a0in Housing Board estates will be ready by early 2027.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"_base_1s8rd_1 _default_1s8rd_12\">To be operated by Shell Singapore and SP Mobility, the chargers are part of Singapore\u2019s plan to enable every HDB town\u00a0to have at least one fast-charging hub by the end of 2027.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"_base_1s8rd_1 _default_1s8rd_12\">EV-Electric Charging (EVe), the Land Transport Authority (LTA) subsidiary responsible for EV charger deployment, said that the new hubs will complement the existing slow-charging network, giving EV users more convenience and flexibility.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"_base_1s8rd_1 _default_1s8rd_12\">They will be located at the following HDB carparks:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"_listElement_wioo3_107\">\n<li class=\"_listItem_wioo3_112\">Block 134\/136 Bedok North Avenue 3, by SP Mobility<\/li>\n<li class=\"_listItem_wioo3_112\">Block 118\/124 Teck Whye Lane, by SP Mobility<\/li>\n<li class=\"_listItem_wioo3_112\">Block 85 to 94\/92A Pipit Road, by SP Mobility<\/li>\n<li class=\"_listItem_wioo3_112\">Block 358-360, 362-363, 366-367 Clementi Avenue 2, by Shell Singapore<\/li>\n<li class=\"_listItem_wioo3_112\">Block 58\/59 Lengkok Bahru, by Shell Singapore<\/li>\n<li class=\"_listItem_wioo3_112\">Block 217 Compassvale Drive, by Shell Singapore<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"_base_1s8rd_1 _default_1s8rd_12\">Depending on the site, each location will have a minimum of six or eight charging points. Each charging point will have a power rating of 50\u00a0kilowatts.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"_base_1s8rd_1 _default_1s8rd_12\">Plugging in for 30 minutes will add around 100km of operating range for most popular EV models.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"_base_1s8rd_1 _default_1s8rd_12\">In contrast, the 7.4kW chargers commonly found in HDB estates take around\u00a03\u00bd\u00a0hours to dispense as much energy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"_base_1s8rd_1 _default_1s8rd_12\">An EVe spokesperson said that the locations were selected because they have sufficient electrical capacity in the near term and are in areas near amenities that drivers frequent.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"_base_1s8rd_1 _default_1s8rd_12\">How installation works progress on the ground will determine which of the six sites will become operational first.<\/p>\n<p class=\"_base_1s8rd_1 _default_1s8rd_12\">Currently, Shell charges between 77 cents per\u00a0kilowatt-hour\u00a0and 82 cents per kWh for the use of its 50kW fast chargers at various locations, compared with 67 cents per kWh for the slower 7.4kW chargers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"_base_1s8rd_1 _default_1s8rd_12\">For SP Mobility, the rate to use its 50kW fast chargers ranges from 77.4 cents per kWh to 82.8 cents per kWh, and 67.6 cents per kWh to use the slower 7.4kW chargers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"_base_1s8rd_1 _default_1s8rd_12\">Users pay to charge their vehicles through the operators\u2019 smartphone apps.<\/p>\n<p class=\"_base_1s8rd_1 _default_1s8rd_12\">A Shell spokesperson said that the energy giant is now working with EVe and relevant agencies on the planning and design of the charging hubs for the sites that it has been awarded.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"_base_1s8rd_1 _default_1s8rd_12\">SP Mobility managing director Dean Cher said charging points need to draw power directly from nearby electrical substations in order to deliver the specified performance. This typically requires a more elaborate set-up \u2013 involving excavation and larger electrical cables \u2013 that is not needed for lower-powered chargers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"_base_1s8rd_1 _default_1s8rd_12\">At the debate on the Ministry of Transport\u2019s budget on March 4, Senior Minister of State for Transport Sun Xueling said the\u00a0LTA\u00a0will roll out around 20 EV fast-charging hubs in HDB towns by the end of 2027.
