The Place\u00a0<\/strong>Now housed along 365 Beach Road in an air\u2011conditioned shophouse\u00a0space, Geylang\u00a0Claypot Rice<\/strong> relocated\u00a0from Geylang to Beach Road a few years ago and it has decades of history (44 years to be exact) in Singapore.\u00a0It started as a humble street-side stall before becoming a Geylang institution and earning a Michelin Plate in 2016.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Beach Road space spots a contemporary interior which breathes a new lease of life into the brand \u2014 cleaner layout, more comfortable seating, but still\u00a0retaining\u00a0that unmistakable \u201ctraditional claypot rice\u201d character that regulars swear by.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Food<\/strong>\u00a0Today, it continues to cook the old-school way, each claypot prepared from scratch over charcoal.<\/p>\n

Despite being an old brand, it still tries to innovate, and their latest creation is the\u00a0Beef Bone Marrow Claypot Rice <\/strong>(S$42). It was my first time having claypot rice in this\u00a0flavour\u00a0and this version features beef short ribs marinated and slow cooked in a rich,\u00a0savoury\u00a0sauce.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Egg yolk and bone marrow are separately added and mixed with the rest of the ingredients along with\u00a0dark soy sauce, and it\u00a0is\u00a0a very rich\u00a0flavour\u00a0profile.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n

Of course, the OG\u00a0flavour\u00a0that most regulars will resonate with is the\u00a0Signature Chicken Claypot Rice<\/strong>\u00a0(S$22.80) with marinated boneless chicken leg, two types of\u00a0lap\u00a0cheong, salted fish and smoked pork belly. You get that smoky flavour in the rice along with the crisp base.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Other than claypot rice dishes, there are also other Zi Char dishes to complement the rice, including seafood such as the fresh\u00a0BBQ Crab\u00a0<\/strong>(S$18 for 1 crab).\u00a0<\/p>\n

I also tried dishes like the\u00a0Signature Braised Lotus Root Duck\u00a0<\/strong>(S$18.80\/ one quarter\u00a0portion, Prawns\u00a0with Homemade Tofu\u00a0<\/strong>(S$14.80),\u00a0Prawn Paste Frog Leg<\/strong>\u00a0(S$16.80)\u00a0and\u00a0Claypot<\/strong>\u00a0Kai Lan with Prawn Paste & Pork Lard <\/strong>(S$12.80).\u00a0<\/p>\n

Rants\u00a0<\/strong>Expect to wait 15-20 minutes for your claypot rice order.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Will I Return Again?<\/strong>\u00a0Geylang Claypot Rice\u00a0remains\u00a0a must\u2011visit for fans of traditional claypot rice, especially now that it blends authentic flavours with a cleaner, more comfortable dining environment. It is great that heritage brands like this continue to keep the tradition alive, while trying to introduce new elements from time to time.\u00a0<\/p>\n
