The Pok\u00e9mon Trading Card Game\u2019s Mega Evolution<\/em> era continues this spring with a new expansion called Chaos Rising<\/em>. On Thursday, The Pok\u00e9mon Company confirmed its worldwide release for May 22, with prerelease tournaments scheduled for May 9 through May 17. The set will also launch in Pok\u00e9mon TCG Live<\/em> on May 21.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cTrainers will discover Mega Floette ex wreaking havoc as night falls in Lumiose City,\u201d reads the official announcement. \u201cPlayers can leverage Mega Greninja ex and other powerful Pok\u00e9mon, including Mega Pyroar ex and Mega Dragalge ex, to ward off this dangerous threat.\u201d In addition to those four new cards, the Pok\u00e9mon Company also teased a new Espurr card.<\/p>\n The set will include five Mega Evolution Pok\u00e9mon ex, five Pok\u00e9mon ex, 11 illustration rare Pok\u00e9mon, 18 ultra rare Pok\u00e9mon and Trainer cards, and six special illustration rare Pok\u00e9mon and supporter cards. Altogether, Mega Evolution\u2014Chaos Rising<\/em> will include more than 120 cards, including at least 20 trainer cards and more than 35 cards with special illustrations of trainers and their Pok\u00e9mon.<\/p>\n Chaos Rising<\/em> is the fourth expansion in the ongoing Mega Evolution<\/em> block, which began in late 2025. It reintroduced the Mega Evolution mechanic but made it function more like traditional evolution rather than have it trigger with the use of a Spirit Link tool card. This new set follows January\u2019s Ascended Heroes<\/em>, which featured more than 290 new cards, and Perfect Order<\/em>, which launches on March 27 with more than 120.<\/p>\n The Mega Greninja ex Special Illustration Rare seems like this set\u2019s big chase card, and there\u2019s some interesting lore connections here. In the Pok\u00e9mon anime, Ash Ketchum physically fused with his Greninja through a process called Bond Phenomenon. While similar, Ash-Greninja is not explicitly a Mega Evolution. And while Ash-Greninja has appeared on trading cards before, Greninja didn\u2019t get a bona fide Mega Evolution form until 2025\u2019s Pok\u00e9mon Legends: Z\u2011A<\/em> video game. Which means Chaos Rising<\/em> will deliver the first-ever Mega Greninja in the TCG.<\/p>\n Full card lists and product details have yet to be revealed for Chaos Rising<\/em>, but it will continue to push the Mega Evolution theme that\u2019s been dominating the game\u2019s current era \u2014 and likely give collectors plenty of flashy new chase cards along the way.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
