Youths ride e-bikes and bicycles without helmets in middle of Jurong West road"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div xmlns:default=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\">\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">Four youths were seen cycling in the middle of the road along Jurong West Avenue 1.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">Stomper <span><b>Maysa <\/b><\/span>shared a video of the incident, which occurred on Feb 26 at around 5pm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">In the video, one youth can be seen riding a bicycle with three other riders behind. Of the trio, one is on a bicycle while the other two are riding e-bikes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">None are wearing helmets.<\/p>\n<p><iframe class=\"video-container my-lg w-[620px] h-[349px]\" src=\"https:\/\/players.brightcove.net\/4802324446001\/default_default\/index.html?videoId=6390716774112\" title=\"#NoTapis\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">Maysa said this was not the first time he had encountered the group.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">The Stomper had seen them riding dangerously on the road at least twice before, which prompted him to record the incident.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">He added that there were &#8220;maybe more friends they invite&#8221; each time, but there are &#8220;usually three of them&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">&#8220;These kids don&#8217;t understand the danger of riding on the road like that,&#8221; Maysa said, noting that &#8220;lorry drivers or bigger trucks might not see them&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">According to the <span><a class=\"text-primary-500 hover:underline\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lta.gov.sg\/content\/ltagov\/en\/getting_around\/active_mobility\/rules_and_public_education\/rules_and_code_of_conduct.html#:~:text=Wear%20a%20helmet%20when%20cycling%20on%20roads\" target=\"_blank\">Land Transport Authority (LTA)<\/a><\/span>, power-assisted bikes (PABs) and bicycles are allowed on the road and must adhere to the speed limit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">However, riders are required to wear helmets while on the road.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">Cyclists should also keep to the left of the lane, with a maximum of two cyclists abreast of each other.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">More information can be found in <span><a class=\"text-primary-500 hover:underline\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lta.gov.sg\/content\/dam\/ltagov\/news\/press\/2022\/221016_Road_safety_handbook_AnnexB.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">LTA&#8217;s road safety handbook<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"flex flex-col gap-xl rounded-xl border border-primary-100 mt-xl\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stomp.sg\/assets\/stomp-comment-COLiWNMD.png\" alt=\"Stomp Comment\" class=\"absolute -mt-lg -ml-xs w-[203px] md:w-[255px]\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Have something to say?
