After introducing the entry-level MacBook Neo, Apple is expected to expand its MacBook lineup further with a new premium model later this year.<\/p>\n
Bloomberg reports that Apple is planning to launch a new \u201cMacBook Ultra<\/b>\u201d model later this year. Initially rumoured as a successor to the recently introduced MacBook Pro models powered by the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, it\u2019s now believed that this new model could be positioned as a higher-tiering offering<\/b> with a premium price tag to match.<\/p>\n
Apple could justify the higher pricing with a number of hardware upgrades, including an OLED touchscreen<\/b> display and a redesigned, thinner chassis<\/b>. The OLED panel is said to use on-cell touch technology, where the touch sensors are integrated directly into the display\u2019s top layer instead of being added as a separate component. A new design would also help distinguish the model from the MacBook Pro lineup, which has largely remained unchanged since 2021.<\/p>\n
Based on Apple\u2019s historical pricing strategy when introducing OLED displays to the iPhone and iPad, Bloomberg estimates the new MacBook model could cost around 20% more<\/b> than the existing MacBook Pro models. The move would also align with Apple\u2019s new strategy of expanding its premium device portfolio, which is expected to include future products such as a foldable iPhone and AirPods Pro with integrated cameras.<\/p>\n
