The second season of Netflix\u2019s Culinary Class Wars<\/em> has turned Korean temple food into a highly competitive global spectacle, bringing the Venerable Seonjae a flood of offers to capitalise on her new-found fame.<\/p>\n

South Korea\u2019s first designated master of temple food has refused the commercial hype, choosing to educate international and younger audiences about a cuisine rooted in mindfulness and ecological concerns.<\/p>\n

\u201cI stopped my lectures in June last year and I am currently unemployed,\u201d Seonjae joked recently ahead of a cooking demonstration at the Korean Temple Food Centre<\/span> in Seoul\u2019s Jongno district.<\/div>\n

\u201cOthers suggest I should capitalise on the momentum with variety shows and advertisements, but my way of acting is educating younger generations about our food culture to protect it and teach wisdom.\u201d<\/p>\n

The event marked the first media promotion hosted by the Cultural Corps of Korean Buddhism<\/span>, an affiliate of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, since its launch in 2004. The organisation said its goal is to promote the value and spirit of temple food so that the cuisine is not consumed merely as a fad.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
