{"id":33218,"date":"2026-03-03T19:11:40","date_gmt":"2026-03-03T11:11:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=33218"},"modified":"2026-03-03T19:11:40","modified_gmt":"2026-03-03T11:11:40","slug":"man-who-found-body-of-drowned-boy-in-kallang-river-says-family-can-finally-get-closure-singapore-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=33218","title":{"rendered":"Man who found body of drowned boy in Kallang River says family can finally get closure, Singapore News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>He may not have found much joy in finding what they set out for, but sadness and a sense of relief instead.<\/p>\n<p>Muhammad Fazly Laily, 33, who led a small search party near the Kallang River last Thursday (Feb 26) night, described how they discovered the body of Muhammad Qayyim Daniel Putra Rosli, 13.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel was fishing with a group of friends on Feb 25 when he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asiaone.com\/singapore\/friend-recount-rescue-boy-fell-kallang-river-missing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fell into the Kallang River<\/a> and went missing<strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Fazly told Malay publication Berita Harian: &#8220;I do feel relieved. At least the boy&#8217;s family is no longer wondering where he is. Otherwise, it would have been a pity for them to keep wondering.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Fazly, who works as a cleaner, said he had decided along with his family that they would join the ongoing search for Daniel after breaking fast.<\/p>\n<p>Beginning at 9.30pm from Block 15 Upper Boon Keng Road, he said that they were searching for an hour before they spotted something <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asiaone.com\/singapore\/kallang-river-missing-boy-scdf-search-called-off\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">floating in the water<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We stopped and tried to take pictures, but we couldn&#8217;t be sure whether it was the body of the deceased or not because it was very dark,&#8221; he said, adding that the object looked like &#8220;a head and shoulders&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Nur Fatrishah Ahmad, 30, a member of the search party, also reported smelling something she couldn&#8217;t quite put her finger on prior to seeing the object in the river.<\/p>\n<p>Fazly then contacted the police and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) for assistance.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel&#8217;s body was subsequently retrieved from the waters by SCDF firefighters and the Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team.<\/p>\n<p>He was pronounced dead at scene by an SCDF paramedic.<\/p>\n<p>When asked if he had any final words for Daniel&#8217;s family, \u00a0Fazly said: &#8220;I pray that they will continue to be given the strength and patience to face this test, especially in this holy month.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Daniel was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asiaone.com\/singapore\/kallang-river-drowning-13-year-old-boy-daniel-laid-rest\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">buried at Lim Chu Kang Muslim Cemetery<\/a> on Friday (Feb 27) afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>His father, who is in prison, also attended the funeral.<\/p>\n<p>Police officers escorted him into a room to view the body, but was taken away before the burial.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>[[nid:730504]]<\/p>\n<p>khooyihang@asiaone.com<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.asiaone.com\/singapore\/man-found-body-drowned-kallang-family-closure\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Read Full Article At Source <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>He may not have found much joy in finding what they set out for, but sadness and a sense of relief instead.
