But a more complex chapter is being written as AI enters the fray, blurring the line between memory and machine.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">What happens to history when technology begins to curate nostalgia?<\/p>\n<div datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1xdhyk6 ec74h0k0\">Black-and-white photography often feels as though it is from a different universe \u2013 cold, distant and, of course, old. Through <span data-qa=\"Component-Text\" class=\"css-0 ef9u0v00\">AI<\/span>-assisted colourisation and animation, however, the team behind the Instagram account @OldHKinColour takes archival photos of Hong Kong and makes history feel like it happened today.<\/div>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Whether it is the roar of a 1920s Sheung Wan street or a quiet temple scene at Wong Tai Sin from 1968, the account\u2019s posts make Hong Kong\u2019s heritage feel current.<\/p>\n<div class=\"image-inline-container e1a5rv550 css-1llrc1m e1yqhwb40\" data-qa=\"Component-renderMap-StyledDiv\">\n<div class=\"image-inline caption e1fvabeq0 css-19sk4h4 ea9pn0s0\" data-qa=\"Component-Container\">\n<figure class=\"image-inline caption ea9pn0s1 css-12b3lq8 e1gf69pb0\" data-qa=\"ArticleImage-ArticleImageContainer\">\n<div data-qa=\"ArticleImage-handleRenderImage-ImageContainer\" class=\"css-0 e1gf69pb3\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A photo of Hong Kong during the mid-20th century that has been colourised by OldHKinColour.
