Just like last year, Xiaomi has taken advantage of MWC 2026 to announce the global launch of the Xiaomi 17 series.\u00a0<\/p>\n
If you\u2019ve been keeping up with the Chinese brand, you\u2019ll know that Xiaomi is deliberately skipping a number<\/u> to match the iPhone\u2019s naming system, resulting in the Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra for the global market.\u00a0<\/p>\n
These new flagship phones showcase the evolution of Xiaomi\u2019s partnership with Leica<\/u>, with new cameras and even a continuous optical zoom telephoto camera in the Xiaomi 17 Ultra.<\/p>\n
Additionally, there\u2019s a new Leica Leitzphone Powered by Xiaomi<\/b>, which is the global version of the China-only Xiaomi 17 Ultra by Leica. Here\u2019s what you need to know about these three phones.<\/p>\n Xiaomi 17 in Venture Green<\/p>\n Photo: HWZ<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n Xiaomi\u2019s base flagship smartphone has always been a fantastic compact option, and the Xiaomi 17 is no exception. The 6.3-inch CrystalRes OLED<\/b> display is slightly smaller than last year\u2019s model, but it still retains a 1-120Hz refresh rate and support for HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, while coming in brighter, with a peak brightness of 3,500 nits. In fact, Xiaomi has managed to squeeze the bezels even thinner, with all four sides of the bezels just 1.18mm thin.\u00a0<\/p>\n Inside, the phone is equipped with the newest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5<\/b> processor, LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage.<\/p>\n Triple camera array with Leica lenses<\/p>\n Photo: HWZ<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n The three cameras on the back utilise Leica\u2019s VARIO-SUMMILUX 1:1.67-2.4\/17-60 Aspherical<\/b> lenses. We get a new 50MP main camera (Light Fusion 950 sensor, f\/1.7 aperture, OIS) as well as a new 50MP ultrawide camera (Omnivision OV50M sensor, f\/2.4). The 50MP telephoto (Samsung ISOCELL JN5 sensor, f\/2.0, OIS) remains the same, with 2.6x optical zoom and support for 10cm macro photography.<\/p>\n The battery is considerably larger at 6,330mAh<\/b> with an increased 16% silicon content in the silicon-carbon battery, with 100W<\/b> wired HyperCharge and 50W wireless charging.\u00a0<\/p>\n Despite all those improvements, Xiaomi has managed to keep the phone\u2019s weight identical at 191g, while retaining the IP68 dust and water resistance rating. The Xiaomi 17 also accepts dual-SIMs (nano\/nano or nano\/eSIM).\u00a0<\/p>\n There are four colourways: Black, Alpine Pink, Ice Blue and the hero Venture Green colour.<\/p>\n Xiaomi 17 Ultra<\/p>\n Photo: HWZ<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is the first Ultra model to have a flat display and back, which is a nice change and in line with current phone design aesthetics.\u00a0<\/p>\n Xiaomi 17 Ultra\u2019s HyperRGB OLED display<\/p>\n Photo: HWZ<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n The Xiaomi HyperRGB OLED display is even larger this year, at 6.9 inches (2,608 x 1,200 pixels resolution), with a peak brightness of 3,500 nits and a 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate. It\u2019s covered by Xiaomi Shield Glass 3.0, which Xiaomi claims is 30% more drop-resistant than the Xiaomi 15 Ultra.\u00a0<\/p>\n It\u2019s also running on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage. The battery inside is similar to the one in the Xiaomi 17, with 16% silicon content, but with a 6,000mAh<\/b> capacity. The 17 Ultra supports up to 90W<\/b> wired HyperCharge and universal PD PPS charging, with 50W wireless charging.<\/p>\n New Leica cameras<\/p>\n Photo: HWZ<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n The biggest motivation for opting for the Ultra model is its cameras. The Xiaomi 17 Ultra gets a new 50MP main camera (1-inch Light Fusion 1050L sensor, f\/1.6 aperture, OIS) and a new 200MP telephoto camera (Samsung HPE sensor, f\/2.39-2.96 aperture, OIS). Additionally, the phone can now support 10-bit LOG video recording at 4K120FPS using the main and telephoto cameras.<\/p>\n The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is the first smartphone to come with a Leica APO optical<\/b> telephoto lens, which reduces chromatic aberration at the hardware level. Combined with optical zoom across the 75-100mm focal range, Xiaomi boasts that the 17 Ultra will be able to support native 200MP image quality in this range without digital cropping.\u00a0<\/p>\n Just like previous Ultra models, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra does have an optional Photography Kit Pro that comes with a protective case, a 2,000mAh Camera Grip, a detachable thumb support, shutter button and video recording button, as well as a 67mm filter adapter ring and a wrist strap.\u00a0<\/p>\n The Xiaomi 17 Ultra comes in Black<\/b>, White<\/b> and Starlit Green<\/b>.<\/p>\n Left to right: Xiaomi 17 Ultra, Leica Leitzphone powered by Xiaomi<\/p>\n Photo: HWZ<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n Usually, the Ultra version is the most premium of the series, but this year, we have a special model.
