SINGAPORE \u2013 Twenty motorists were hauled to court on Feb 26 and charged with drink driving, with several of them convicted on the same day.<\/p>\n
The motorists were arrested between July 2025 and February 2026 after failing breathalyser tests administered during police enforcement checks.<\/p>\n
Seven of these motorists were handed additional charges of driving without due care and attention, leaving a vehicle in a position causing undue inconvenience to others, speeding and repeat drink-driving offences, said the police on Feb 25.<\/p>\n
On July 10, 2025, Adam Hashim, 42, was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol when his vehicle hit a kerb in Upper Bukit Timah Road.<\/p>\n
Adam, a repeat drink-driving offender, had 45 microgrammes (mcg)\u00a0of alcohol in every 100ml of breath, above the prescribed limit of 35mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath.<\/p>\n
He is expected to return to court on March 31.<\/p>\n
On July 30, 2025, Lawrence Ong Han Ming, 48, was accused of losing control of his vehicle while driving along Tampines Avenue 5, hitting a traffic light pole and road kerb.<\/p>\n
According to charge sheets, Ong had 56mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath. His case will be heard again on April 7.<\/p>\n
On Sept 19, 2025, David Gabriel Leong Tze Keong, 52, was stopped during checks on the ECP and found to be driving under the influence of alcohol. He had at least 48mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath.<\/p>\n
The police said Leong was disqualified from driving in 2010 for one year for a previous drink-driving offence.<\/p>\n
He was convicted on Feb 26 over his current drink-driving offence and sentenced to 18 days\u2019 jail and fined $6,000.<\/p>\n
On Oct 1, 2025, Tham Ming Wei, 26, allegedly had 53mcg alcohol per 100ml of breath when he lost control of his vehicle in Seletar West Link and crashed into railings and a wall. He had 48mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath. <\/p>\n He was given a $2,800 fine after being convicted on Feb 26 of drink driving and speeding. His case was adjourned to April 16.<\/p>\n Those who drive under the influence of alcohol can be fined between $2,000 and $10,000 or jailed for up to a year, or both.<\/p>\n A repeated offender faces a fine of between $5,000 and $20,000 and a mandatory jail term of up to two years.
