These houses were bigger than anything buyers could have afforded at home, allowing them to feel like they owned an actual mansion.<\/p>\n<div datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1xdhyk6 ec74h0k0\">On the downside, Zhongshan was kind of boring. Outside the gated communities, there was not much to see or do, so people primarily stayed in, caught up on TV series and played <span data-qa=\"Component-Text\" class=\"css-0 ef9u0v00\">mahjong<\/span>.<\/div>\n<div datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1xdhyk6 ec74h0k0\">How times have changed. Cities in the Greater Bay Area have modernised at breakneck speed. With prosperity has come malls, restaurants and attractions. In 2024, the 24km-long (15-mile) <span data-qa=\"Component-Text\" class=\"css-0 ef9u0v00\">Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link<\/span> opened, knocking an hour off the travel time from Hong Kong.<\/div>\n<div datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1xdhyk6 ec74h0k0\">One of my uncles bought a property in <span data-qa=\"Component-Text\" class=\"css-0 ef9u0v00\">Zhongshan<\/span> and invited me to his retreat over the recent holidays. Knowing my relatives, it was bound to be a weekend of gluttony and feasting, with a cursory bit of sightseeing.<\/div>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">From Hong Kong Island, one bus option departs from Stewart Road, outside the Novotel Century hotel in Wan Chai, terminating at the Transportation Building in Shiqi, in central Zhongshan.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">This is my uncle\u2019s preferred route because the end point is two minutes from his favourite pigeon restaurant, BaoBaoDian Signboard.
