The U.S. Supreme Court on Feb. 20 struck down most of the sweeping tariffs President Donald Trump imposed in 2025, ruling that he exceeded his authority by invoking a law meant for national emergencies. Hours later, Trump announced on Truth Social he would impose a temporary 10 per cent global tariff under Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974, which allows tariffs of up to 15 per cent for 150 days before Congress must step in. The new tariffs will take effect on Feb. 24.
