SINGAPORE \u2013 A crew member was reported dead after a fire on a cruise en route to Singapore early on Feb 20. <\/p>\n
Of the 224 passengers on board, 185 were Singaporeans, said the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) in a statement at about 8.40am.<\/p>\n
MPA patrol craft, the Police Coast Guard and the Singapore Civil Defence Force\u2019s Marine Division are attending to the vessel, which is anchored at Raffles Reserved Anchorage. According to an MPA map online, the anchorage is located between Pulau Senang and Pulau Semakau.<\/p>\n
The fire on board World Legacy, a Liberia-registered passenger vessel, happened at about 4am, it said.<\/p>\n
The fire was put under control shortly after, MPA said. There were 388 crew members on board, none of whom are Singaporeans.<\/p>\n
There were no reported injuries among the other crew members and passengers, MPA added.<\/p>\n
Travel agency Dragon Cruises, a Singapore-based company that manages local business development for World Cruises, the brand under which the World Legacy vessel is marketed, said it is cooperating fully with the authorities.<\/p>\n
\u201cPassenger and crew safety is our top priority,\u201d a spokesperson said in its response to queries from The Straits Times.<\/p>\n

Unlike typical cruise ships, guests on World Legacy can choose between visiting the cruise for a few hours, and extending their visit to an overnight or three-day, two-night stay.<\/p>\n In a statement on Nov 18, 2025, World Cruises, the banner under which World Legacy sails, described the cruise as \u201cSingapore and Johor\u2019s first true lifestyle playground at sea\u201d, and is designed as a \u201chybrid between a flexible day-cruise destination and a hassle-free multi-night escape\u201d.<\/p>\n People can access the cruise through a \u201chybrid pickup system\u201d, with multiple daily ferries departing from Singapore Cruise Centre and Puteri Harbour Cruise Centre in Johor Bahru, it said.<\/p>\n In late December 2025, some would-be holidaymakers were <\/p>\n met with disappointment<\/p>\n <\/a> when they learnt just days before that the preview voyage of World Legacy would be postponed.<\/p>\n According to a chart uploaded on Facebook by World Legacy by World Cruises on its Chinese New Year sailings, the sailing on Feb 20 was scheduled to arrive at Harbourfront at 7am and depart at 9am.
