Apple\u2019s rumoured foldable iPhone could feature a thinner and brighter screen, thanks to the adoption of Samsung\u2019s new OLED technology.<\/p>\n
TheElec reports that the Samsung-made OLED panel, known as CoE (Colour Filter on Encapsulation)<\/b>, differs from traditional OLED panels, which have a separate polarising film placed above the panel to reduce reflection and improve contrast. Instead, the CoE design applies the colour filter directly<\/b> onto the OLED\u2019s protective encapsulation layer.<\/p>\n
This approach results in a thinner display stack<\/b> that allows more light to pass through<\/b>, increasing brightness<\/b> without negatively impacting power consumption. The reduced panel thickness could also help Apple design a slimmer foldable iPhone.<\/p>\n
The foldable iPhone, which is tipped to launch later this year, is expected to be the first Apple device to adopt this new OLED panel. The next-generation iPhone Air could be the next Apple device to adopt it in 2027.<\/p>\n
Samsung is also expected to bring the new OLED technology to its upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8, and Z Flip8.<\/p>\n
Beyond this OLED technology, Samsung may also supply Apple with its recently showcased creaseless foldable OLED. <\/p>\n
