In the caption of his post, he wrote, \u201c4 Shocks I faced moving from India to Singapore. Hi, I\u2019m a Senior Software Engineer in Singapore. Moving here wasn\u2019t just a location change, it was a logic change.\u201d He then broke down the differences that stood out to him the most.<\/p>\n<p>According to Aman, the first major surprise was what he called the \u201cwealth paradox.\u201d He explained that cars in Singapore are nearly five times more expensive due to the Certificate of Entitlement (COE) system. Aman pointed out that in India, eating out was often considered a luxury, while in Singapore it was a practical choice. He explained that hawker centres &#8211; community food courts &#8211; were a daily necessity because the combined cost of groceries and time spent cooking often exceeded the price of eating out.<\/p>\n<p>This shift in food culture, he said, takes time for Indians to mentally adjust to.<\/p>\n<p>Another aspect that impressed him was Singapore\u2019s digital governance system. Aman described the Singpass app as \u201cmind-blowing,\u201d explaining that it connected citizens and residents to services like taxes, housing, healthcare, and banking in one place. Emphasising the efficiency of the system, he added that he had \u201cgenuinely forgotten what a Xerox machine looks like.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The fourth and perhaps most personal change Aman spoke about was social culture. He explained that people in Singapore strongly minded their own business. There were no casual check-ins from neighbours or unsolicited conversations.<\/p>\n<p>While this initially felt cold, Aman admitted that after coming from what he described as a nosy society, privacy began to feel like a luxury rather than a drawback.<\/p>\n<p>Summing up his experience, Aman acknowledged that Singapore was undeniably expensive, but argued that the cost came with benefits. \u201cYou are paying for a bug-free operating system,\u201d he wrote, likening the country\u2019s systems and infrastructure to a smoothly functioning piece of software.<\/p>\n<p>The video itself features simple snippets from Aman\u2019s daily life, including moments at work and scenes from his routine in Singapore.<\/p>\n<p>Watch the video here:<\/p>\n<p>Social media users flooded the comments with praise and agreement.
