The overriding theme defining television in recent years has been a fear of the new. This is why reboots and spin-offs continue apace, with old titles brought back from the dead or from the not-so-distant past and intellectual property milked within an inch of its life (somehow HBO has yet another Game of Thrones<\/em> series coming our way).<\/p>\n

It is as if everyone in Hollywood ran out of new ideas all at once. Do not blame writers, but executives who are rapidly shepherding their industry towards irrelevance with an over-reliance on reworked IP, while original ideas are left unproduced.<\/p>\n

Here is some of what is coming up on TVs in the next couple of months.<\/p>\n

1. The Pitt Season 2<\/h3>\n

The Pittsburgh-set medical drama from ER<\/em> showrunner John Wells is back for a second season, premiering almost exactly a year after it debuted. Imagine, a streaming series returning on a reliable schedule!<\/p>\n

Dr Robby (ER<\/em> veteran Noah Wyle) is back once again, overseeing the managed chaos, student doctors and medical residents of his emergency department.<\/p>\n

The series is one of the best examples of competency as comfort, something we could all use more of at the moment in real life.<\/p>\n

From January 8 on HBO Max.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
