Gaming insider NateTheHate has shed some insight into why Baldur’s Gate 3 <\/strong><\/em>will not be coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in the future. According to the insider, the relationship between Baldur’s Gate 3<\/em> developer Larian Studios and Wizards of the Coast may be a sticking point that prevents this port from ever happening. <\/p>\n

On paper, the slow, turn-based gameplay of Baldur’s Gate 3 <\/em>is a great match for the Nintendo Switch 2. The critically acclaimed CRPG would be right at home on Nintendo’s latest console, and open the game up to an audience who maybe have never tried it before. And with Nintendo’s recent drive to bring third-party titles to the Switch 2, it has always felt like a distinct possibility. Any possible port would not arrive without concerns – Baldur’s Gate 3 <\/em>is notoriously heavy on performance during Act Three, which could make it tough on the Nintendo Switch 2 hardware. But beyond that one act, it isn’t a particularly performance-heavy game, so if Larian could’ve solved those Act Three issues, it would feel as though one major barrier to Baldur’s Gate 3 <\/em>on Switch 2 had been solved. However, there’s allegedly one issue that simply isn’t going away.<\/p>\n

\n Larian and Wizard of the Coast’s Relationship Could Stop BG3 Coming to Switch

Gaming insider NateTheHate over on X recently revealed that “Larian would love to bring Baldur’s Gate 3 to the Switch 2.” However, it seemingly isn’t going to happen, because “their relationship with Hasbro\/Wizards of the Coast is not healthy.” The comment came in response to a comment made by Larian boss Swen Vincke during a recent Divinity <\/em>AMA on Reddit, where, when asked if Baldur’s Gate 3 <\/em>on the Nintendo Switch 2 was happening, said, “We would have loved to but it’s wasn’t our decision to make.” <\/p>\n

For obvious reasons, Vincke doesn’t publicly state a strained relationship between Larian and Hasbro\/Wizards of the Coast. It’s unclear why this would be the case, either. It’s known that Larian did initially start work on Baldur’s Gate 4 <\/em>before canceling it, citing a lack of creative inspiration to dive straight back into that universe. Larian also did not create any DLC for Baldur’s Gate 3 <\/em>for the same reasons. So while it may be the case that the companies have a difficult working relationship now, there was a world where they continued together to put together Baldur’s Gate 4<\/em>. <\/p>\n

It’s disappointing news for Nintendo Switch 2 gamers, for sure. Getting the 2023 Game of the Year would have been huge for the Switch 2, but in the current environment, it seems as though it’s simply not going to happen. Regardless, it’s certainly not an issue between Larian and Nintendo. The developer recently released Divinity: Original Sin 2 – Definitive Edition <\/em>on the Switch 2, giving gamers a chance to catch up on the series before its next title, Divinity<\/em>. <\/p>\n

With this in mind, Baldur’s Gate 3 <\/em>could end up being the odd one out among modern Larian titles when it comes to the Nintendo Switch 2. It’s very possible that Divinity <\/em>launches on the platform, whether that be day and date with other consoles or later, as is the case with many Switch 2 ports. For now, gamers will just have to wait and see what Larian has planned for its next title. It has already started to shed some light on what players can expect, recently claiming that Divinity<\/em> has a better character creator than Baldur’s Gate 3<\/em>. Given the critical and commercial success of BG3<\/em>, expectations for Divinity <\/em>are going to be higher than ever.<\/p>\n
