Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth<\/strong><\/em> director Naoki Hamaguchi said that he would rather see someone else lead a potential remake project of Final Fantasy 6<\/em> rather than himself. The Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth<\/em> lead said that he would rather take on a supportive role to encourage any upcoming director that wants to remake Final Fantasy 6<\/em> in the future.<\/p>\n

Originally released on the SNES in 1994, Final Fantasy 6<\/em> is considered one of the best RPGs of all time and one of the Final Fantasy<\/em> franchise’s most-beloved entries. Final Fantasy 6<\/em> features an ensemble cast of playable characters, from the enigmatic Terra to the daring treasure hunter Locke, as they face off against the Gestahlian Empire and the crazed magician Kefka Palazzo. Between the Active Time Battle system, utilizing various magicite to learn spells, and unforgettable story moments, Final Fantasy 6<\/em> is one of the best-aged RPGs that players can still dive into on modern systems.<\/p>\n

\n Final Fantasy 7 Remake Director Would Rather See Someone Else Take Charge of a Potential FF6 Remake

Even though Final Fantasy 6<\/em> influenced who he is as a game director thanks to playing through it as a kid, Hamaguchi said that he would rather see someone else take the lead if FF6<\/em> were to get a future remake. In a video interview with GamerBraves, Hamaguchi said that he has been in charge of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake<\/em> trilogy for almost a decade, and that he is “finally seeing basically the end of the tunnel” when it comes to his time as the project’s director. Hamaguchi said that, despite his personal influences with Final Fantasy 6<\/em>, none of them were included in Final Fantasy 7 Remake<\/em> since they were following a pre-determined script during development. However, Hamaguchi said that, should Final Fantasy 6<\/em> get a remake like FF7<\/em> did, he would be open to taking on a supporting role for whoever leads the project and would be cheering them on.<\/p>\n

Hamaguchi also touched upon some of the themes that went into the Final Fantasy 7 Remake<\/em> saga during each entry’s development. For Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth<\/em>, the theme of bonds was made prevalent throughout the main cast’s journey in the open world. The bonds that Cloud forms with other party members would not only be influenced by dialogue choices, but also be seen through various synergy attacks that characters could perform at given moments. Hamaguchi previously stated in a separate September 2025 interview that the keyword for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3<\/em> had been decided, but did not divulge what it was. Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3<\/em> currently has no release window or title, though Square Enix previously stated that fans may not have to wait much longer to hear what it has in store.<\/p>\n

\n Final Fantasy 6 and 7 Remake Can Be Played on More Platforms Than Before

However, Final Fantasy 6<\/em> is part of the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster<\/em> compilation, which includes original and remastered soundtracks and the same gameplay as the original SNES version. Final Fantasy 6 Pixel Remaster<\/em> can be played on all major platforms and has sold well as a result of its wide availability. Ergo, first-time players looking to try out Final Fantasy 6<\/em> have some easily accessible ways to do so.<\/p>\n

As for the Final Fantasy 7 Remake<\/em> saga, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade<\/em> will launch on Xbox Series X\/S and Nintendo Switch 2 on January 22. However, due to the game’s massive 95GB file size, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade<\/em> is too big to fit on a Switch 2 Game Card. Ergo, a Game-Key Card was deemed necessary, with Hamaguchi defending Square Enix’s decision to put physical copies of FF7 Remake Intergrade<\/em> on the controversial format. It remains to be seen how well Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade<\/em> will fare on Nintendo’s latest console.<\/p>\n
