{"id":26956,"date":"2026-01-09T04:48:50","date_gmt":"2026-01-08T20:48:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=26956"},"modified":"2026-01-09T04:48:50","modified_gmt":"2026-01-08T20:48:50","slug":"scammers-using-nus-presidents-image-university-logo-in-fake-news-articles-and-online-ads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=26956","title":{"rendered":"Scammers using NUS president\u2019s image, university logo in fake news articles and online ads"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">SINGAPORE \u2013<!-- --> <!-- -->Fake news articles and advertisements misusing NUS president Tan Eng Chye\u2019s image and the university\u2019s logo to promote investment scams have been seen on the internet, the National University of Singapore said on Facebook on Jan 8.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The university has also seen fraudulent social media accounts, such as one named NusOnline SG, using the NUS name and logo, in an attempt to market courses, it said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">It warned members of the public not to click on<!-- --> <!-- -->or respond to these scams, or share any personal information, and urged those who encounter these scams to report them through ScamShield at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scamshield.gov.sg\/?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular inline\" data-testid=\"paragraph-test-id\">www.scamshield.gov.sg<\/p>\n<p><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">In Singapore, close to half a billion dollars was lost to scams in the first half of 2025, according to statistics released by the police in August 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">While the number of investment scam cases fell almost 20 per cent to 2,698 in the first half of 2025 from the same period in 2024, the amount lost was the highest among all scam types.
