SINGAPORE – Visitors to Jewel Changi Airport\u2019s Walking Net attraction are urged to follow safety guidelines while on the suspended giant net at the mall.<\/p>\n
The advisory comes after a boy was injured while playing there on Dec 10. <\/p>\n
The Building and Construction Authority (BCA), in response to media queries, said on Jan 5 that the child had been running on the net, lost his balance and struck a wooden plank walkway.<\/p>\n
The Walking Net, located within Jewel\u2019s Canopy Park, is a giant net suspended 25m above ground that visitors can walk on. <\/p>\n
A Jewel Changi Airport Development spokesperson said on Jan 5 that the Walking Net\u2019s safety guidelines stipulate that visitors should not run on the attraction. <\/p>\n
\u201cIn this instance, rangers had issued several reminders to the child\u2019s group not to run while on the Walking Net, before the unfortunate incident occurred,\u201d said the spokesperson. Rangers are staff stationed on-site to ensure safety. <\/p>\n
BCA said it has investigated the incident and verified that the Walking Net complies with regulatory requirements.<\/p>\n
The Jewel spokesperson said that after the accident, staff immediately administered first aid. Further medical assistance within the airport was offered but declined by the child\u2019s parent, the spokesperson added. \u201cWe remain concerned for the injured child and have been in touch with his family on this incident,\u201d said the spokesperson.<\/p>\n
A mandatory safety briefing is conducted before visitors are allowed on the Walking Net, and \u201cincludes instructions on appropriate behaviour, including no running or rowdy play\u201d, said the Jewel spokesperson. These reminders are also on a sign at the entrance of the attraction. <\/p>\n
All children entering the attraction must be accompanied and supervised by an adult to ensure they adhere to safety guidelines, per the ticketing requirements, added the spokesperson. <\/p>\n
Jewel and BCA urge visitors to adhere to safety instructions and guidelines, and ensure their children do so as well. <\/p>\n
Jewel is committed to maintaining the highest safety standards for all its attractions, said its spokesperson, adding that the Walking Net undergoes annual inspections and regulatory safety checks. <\/p>\n
The Walking Net, classified as a \u201cplay net\u201d, is regulated under the Amusement Rides Safety Act, which requires operators to operate in accordance with the procedures specified by the designer or manufacturer. <\/p>\n
The Canopy Park, located on the fifth floor of Jewel, was unveiled in 2019, and includes attractions such as a 250m-long net that visitors can bounce on, a mirror maze and a 50m-long glass-floored bridge suspended 23m above the ground. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n
