{"id":25958,"date":"2026-01-05T15:57:41","date_gmt":"2026-01-05T07:57:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=25958"},"modified":"2026-01-05T15:57:41","modified_gmt":"2026-01-05T07:57:41","slug":"former-dpm-heng-swee-keat-relinquishes-post-as-member-of-mas-board-of-directors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=25958","title":{"rendered":"Former DPM Heng Swee Keat relinquishes post as member of MAS board of directors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">SINGAPORE \u2013 Former deputy prime minister Heng Swee Keat has relinquished his position as a member of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) board of directors, the authority announced on Jan 5. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">MAS board chairman Gan Kim Yong, in a statement, expressed deep appreciation for Mr Heng\u2019s contributions to the board over the past 20 years, including his stint as managing director from 2005 to 2011.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">\u201cHe was instrumental in steering MAS through the 2008 financial crisis, oversaw reforms to strengthen risk management and corporate governance in financial institutions, and enhanced MAS\u2019 standing in global financial circles,\u201d said Mr Gan. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Mr Heng also \u201ccontributed to Singapore\u2019s development as a financial hub\u201d, and encouraged the adoption of financial technology and innovation and the development of talent, Mr Gan added. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">\u201cHis sharp insights and wisdom were tremendous assets for the MAS board. We wish him the best in his future endeavours.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Mr Heng was deputy prime minister from <!-- -->2019 to 2025<!-- -->. He also served as minister for education from 2011 to 2015 and finance minister from 2015 to 2021.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">He <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/politics\/ge2025-teo-chee-hean-heng-swee-keat-among-20-pap-mps-who-have-stepped-down?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular inline\" data-testid=\"paragraph-test-id\">retired from politics in 2025.<\/p>\n<p><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The
