On August 5, 2024, the manga came to an end after 431 chapters. On April 3, 2016, Bones’ anime adaptation aired its first episode. On December 13, 2025, MHA released its grand finale, bringing Deku’s animated story to a close after 170 episodes.

While perhaps not always the main focus, MHA‘s characters played a crucial role in putting the franchise on the map, and that goes for both the heroes and the villains. Horikoshi has a real talent for memorable designs, as MHA has arguably the most visually striking roster in modern shonen. The actual writing for the characters is a touch more polarizing, although the likes of Midoriya, All-Might, Bakugo, Todoroki, and Shigaraki have certainly left their mark on the manga and anime industries.

<picture>
        </picture>

                    Related

My Hero Academia Vigilantes: Every Main Character’s Age, Height, And Birthday

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes has a great cast of core characters, so let’s go through their ages, heights, and birthdays.

While this universe is not disappearing just yet, as Vigilantes‘ anime adaptation is ongoing, the original My Hero Academia is officially done. Luffy, Goku, Naruto, and Ichigo all have their fans and critics, but they do not get anywhere near as much pushback as Izuku Midoriya. Honestly, at times, the show appears to be successful despite him, rather than due to any of his contributions.

Like, why? He is a pretty good lead for this type of story. A Quirkless who aspired to walk in All-Might’s footsteps, Deku’s future was destined for normality due to never developing any sort of power. He was also relentlessly bullied by somebody he used to call a friend. Then, one day, his tormentor found himself in a life-or-death situation, and weak-as-paper Midoriya stepped up to try and save his life, proving himself to be a hero because of his drive rather than any Quirk. All-Might noticed and picked Deku as his successor, allowing him to enroll at U.A. High School. The student then spends the next years destroying his body to try and become stronger, to try and live up to his idol’s image. I mean, what is there to dislike there?

If I can’t save the one small girl in front of me, how can I become a hero that saves everyone?

OK, Deku can be a bit one-note as a protagonist, as he does not change all that much. He is pretty static, and he grows so powerful that his development can come across as way too fast compared to nearly everyone else in the story. Midoriya is arguably at his most interesting during MHA‘s first two episodes, as that is the only time he is unique for a battle shonen lead. After that, he is just another protagonist, which is not necessarily a bad thing.

Still, Deku serves as a rock-solid foundation for My Hero Academia, helping to bring in the supporting cast while also having a simple but diverse moveset that shines during battle sequences. After this saga, he mostly slips into the crowd, although he remains relevant.

                        Eijiro Kirishima

            Quirk: Hardening

                                        How Old Is Kirishima: 15

                                        Kirishima’s Birthday: October 16

How Tall Is Kirishima: 5’7″ (170cm)

Debut Episode: Season 1, Episode 5; “What I Can Do for Now”

                                        Japanese Voice Actor: Toshiki Masuda

                                        English Voice Actor: Justin Cook

There was a time when many people thought Kirishima would be nothing more than just another face in Class 1-A. Simply put, the story was never going to be able to present all these characters as being equally important, and a few of them were destined to be pushed to the side. MHA is Deku’s story, and everyone else is just part of it; unfortunately, Rikido Sato only gets a footnote rather than a chapter devoted to him. That’s not to say the character does not have his moments, like in the Final Exams Arc, but he is mostly just a background figure who occasionally pops up to help in team battles.

Rikido has a straightforward Quirk that allows him to increase his base strength by consuming sugar, becoming 5x stronger for three minutes. Due to how Sugar Rush works, he wisely focuses on increasing his physical strength and mass, allowing him to pack quite a punch. Still, his Quirk is arguably a bit too simple, and it never really evolves throughout the anime. Despite being a forgettable character with a rather uninteresting ability, Rikido should transition into a superhero role quite well, as the world could always use a few more powerhouses.

                        Mezo Shoji

            Quirk: Dupli-Arms

                                        How Old Is Mezo: 15

                                        Mezo’s Birthday: February 15

How Tall Is Mezo: 6’2″ (187cm)

Debut Episode: Season 1, Episode 4; “Start Line”

                                        Japanese Voice Actor: Masakazu Nishida

                                        English Voice Actor: Ian Sinclair

Another 1-A student who does not get that much to do throughout the anime, Mezo Shoji still manages to leave a solid impression, partially due to his great eye-catching design. That said, he takes part in a few fine fights, and his Quirk is used to fairly good effect.

                        Nemuri Kayama (Midnight)

            Quirk: Somnambulist

                                        How Old Is Midnight: 30

                                        Midnight’s Birthday: March 9

How Tall Is Midnight: 5’9″ (175cm)

Debut Episode: Season 1, Episode 9; “Yeah, Just Do Your Best, Ida”

                                        Japanese Voice Actor: Akeno Watanabe

                                        English Voice Actor: Elizabeth Maxwell

One of the more controversial teachers, Nemuri Kayama‘s superhero persona, Midnight, is defined by her sexuality, and she leans into that type of behavior even while working at U.A. Rumi simply leaves a strong, unforgettable impression thanks to her relentless independence and her non-nonsense fighting style. Mirko jumps headfirst into battle with little regard for her own safety, and she does not back down from any battle, regardless of the odds. Similar to Bakugo, she is a hot-head, although she has enough experience and maturity to use her brash personality as a strength rather than a weakness that can be exploited by villains.

Despite having a Quirk that might not sound that powerful on paper, Mirko makes full use of her Rabbit abilities, granting her considerable speed and strength. While he does not seem to spend too much time directly interacting with students, Nezu uses his intelligence to try and keep them safe, all the while participating in strategic plans that influence events beyond the school’s walls.

Also, Nezu is not human. Like, that is probably the first thing most people will notice, and he is a unique type of Quirk user. While humans with animal Quirks are somewhat common, Nezu is essentially the opposite: an animal with a quirk that grants him human qualities. Specifically, he is really smart, more so than most of his peers. Initially, the character very much feels like a tier-1 villain, in the sense of being an initial threat that will eventually be pushed aside by more interesting and powerful antagonists. While he does move into the background to an extent, Kurogiri is spotlighted during MHA‘s final arcs, with his backstory being tied to two well-liked U.A. High School faculty members. No spoilers, but his story is fascinating and quite moving.

In terms of Quirks, Kurogiri’s Warp Gate is arguably among the most useful, especially as a support tool. As long as planned correctly, he can open gates to teleport people to different locations, serving as the perfect option for an ambush or a quick escape. The heroes managing to remove Kurogiri from the battlefield was a huge deal.

                        Kyudai Garaki

            Quirk: Life Force

How Old Is Kyudai: 120 (Minimum)

Debut Episode: Season 2, Episode 20; “Listen Up!! Kyudai is generally an awful person through and through, lacking any sliver of redeeming qualities that some of the other characters have.
