Gone are the days of superclubs like Butter Factory (8,000 sq ft when it was at One Fullerton, before closing in 2014) and St James Power Station (70,000 sq ft before its nightlife era ended in 2018).<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">One of Singapore\u2019s newest nightclubs is Chada by Tin Box. Located in Suntec City, the venue is just under 1,300 sq ft, and kicked off with an opening party featuring Dutch-Morrocan DJ R3hab in October<!-- --> 2025<!-- -->.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">\u201cThe reality is that Singapore\u2019s nightlife has evolved, particularly in the wake of lifestyle shifts brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic,\u201d says Tinbox Group\u2019s group deputy general manager Charmaine Wong.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">\u201cToday, many people value curated, comfortable and meaningful social experiences over large-scale crowds.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"landscape inline-media-wrapper\" data-testid=\"inline-media-test-id\">\n<div class=\"flex flex-col items-start relative w-fit\"><picture><source media=\"(max-width: 480px)\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cassette.sphdigital.com.sg\/image\/straitstimes\/bf84a07c6e123059915d264874c603206f3cec6f35b02293d4496589e1f9d9e6?w=480\"\/><source media=\"(min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 720px)\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cassette.sphdigital.com.sg\/image\/straitstimes\/bf84a07c6e123059915d264874c603206f3cec6f35b02293d4496589e1f9d9e6?w=720\"\/><source media=\"(min-width: 721px)\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cassette.sphdigital.com.sg\/image\/straitstimes\/bf84a07c6e123059915d264874c603206f3cec6f35b02293d4496589e1f9d9e6?w=900\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cassette.sphdigital.com.sg\/image\/straitstimes\/bf84a07c6e123059915d264874c603206f3cec6f35b02293d4496589e1f9d9e6\" alt=\"\" class=\"aspect-landscape flex items-start shrink-0 object-cover landscape article-landscape mobile:w-auto tablet:w-auto\" data-testid=\"image-test-id\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/picture><\/div><figcaption class=\"mobile:mx-16 tablet:mx-00 flex flex-col gap-08 py-16 desktop:pb-24\">\n<p class=\"font-eyebrow-baseline-regular text-secondary\" data-testid=\"inline-media-caption-test-id\">The post-pandemic years have seen Zouk shift towards more music programming and experiences to entice partygoers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-eyebrow-baseline-regular text-placeholder\" data-testid=\"inline-media-credit-test-id\">PHOTO: ZOUK<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">This trend towards a different sense of scale and intimacy is also reshaping one of Singapore\u2019s longest-running nightlife institutions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Nightclub Zouk is undergoing a revamp to turn it into more of a daytime and earlier-evening destination, with a greater focus on live music and events that go beyond the typical clubbing milieu.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">\u201cThe future of nightlife isn\u2019t just about bigger production, it\u2019s about deeper connection. Guests want spaces where they feel like regulars, not just ticket numbers,\u201d says Mr Andrew Li, chief executive of Zouk Group.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Looking ahead, he predicts: \u201cBy 2026, the most successful clubs will be the ones that feel both world-class and familiar \u2013 exciting enough to post about but welcoming enough to keep coming back to week after week.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">It is a tough balancing act for operators: maintaining enough scale and spectacle to draw the crowds while offering the lower-cost and more intimate social experiences that consumers now crave.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Nightclub and event space Rasa Space opened <!-- -->in January 2025.<!-- --> With around 6,000 sq ft of <!-- -->floor space at Republic Plaza,<!-- --> it is the closest thing Singapore has to a new large-format nightclub in years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">But even Rasa is betting big on daytime offerings and lifestyle events outside the typical nightclub\u2019s purview, from sober matcha raves to yoga sessions to comedy shows by Singaporean entertainer Kumar.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">As Rasa founder Kavan Spruyt puts it: \u201cI honestly don\u2019t know what to say about 2026 except to stay resilient. Afternoon events on our end have gained more interest as the year went by, but we are staying cautious.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">\u201cPeople are coming out only on big events,\u201d he adds.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"landscape inline-media-wrapper\" data-testid=\"inline-media-test-id\">\n<div class=\"flex flex-col items-start relative w-fit\"><picture><source media=\"(max-width: 480px)\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cassette.sphdigital.com.sg\/image\/straitstimes\/294e27925e1f534a70ba37dd9ed6ee1b8e6aeac149145f12b80585aa81c9035b?w=480\"\/><source media=\"(min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 720px)\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cassette.sphdigital.com.sg\/image\/straitstimes\/294e27925e1f534a70ba37dd9ed6ee1b8e6aeac149145f12b80585aa81c9035b?w=720\"\/><source media=\"(min-width: 721px)\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cassette.sphdigital.com.sg\/image\/straitstimes\/294e27925e1f534a70ba37dd9ed6ee1b8e6aeac149145f12b80585aa81c9035b?w=900\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cassette.sphdigital.com.sg\/image\/straitstimes\/294e27925e1f534a70ba37dd9ed6ee1b8e6aeac149145f12b80585aa81c9035b\" alt=\"\" class=\"aspect-landscape flex items-start shrink-0 object-cover landscape article-landscape mobile:w-auto tablet:w-auto\" data-testid=\"image-test-id\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/picture><\/div><figcaption class=\"mobile:mx-16 tablet:mx-00 flex flex-col gap-08 py-16 desktop:pb-24\">\n<p class=\"font-eyebrow-baseline-regular text-secondary\" data-testid=\"inline-media-caption-test-id\">Gen Z partygoers swarmed into Funan mall on Aug 29 for a two-night sober party.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-eyebrow-baseline-regular text-placeholder\" data-testid=\"inline-media-credit-test-id\">ST PHOTO: TEO KAI XIANG<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">As the scene experiences upheaval, its biggest winners are those pushing the envelope on what nightlife can look like.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">A growing number of small founder-led and bootstrapped party collectives <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/life\/do-singapores-gen-zs-still-know-how-to-party?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular inline\" data-testid=\"paragraph-test-id\">have been making their mark<\/p>\n<p><\/a> in the years leading up to 2026, from 5210PM to Ice Cream Sundays, with more day-centric parties.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The year 2025 also saw sober party collective Beans&amp;Beats take over Funan mall for the country\u2019s biggest sober rave, as part of a Gen Z friendship festival co-organised by the Ministry of Social and Family Development.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">It was also the year Gen Z party collective Exposure Therapy \u2013 known for its sober matcha raves \u2013 did takeovers at National Gallery Singapore and <!-- -->Library@Orchard.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">From this reporter\u2019s perspective, it helps that organising sober parties opens doors to collaborating with more corporate and family-friendly partners that might otherwise see party culture as incompatible with their ethos.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">It also looks like more niche and subcultural offerings are set to be the future of nightlife in Singapore.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">One sign of the shift towards such niche offerings is party collective Culture\u2019s new Above30Club event series \u2013 billed as a \u201cdaytime party for the ones with back pain and bills\u201d \u2013 which kicked off with its first event on Dec 20 at Tuff Club in Robinson Road.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">\u201cOur focus is on creating experiences that bring people together, especially those who may feel that nightlife is no longer for them,\u201d says Culture co-founder and DJ Vira Suria.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">\u201cWe can\u2019t say for sure if this concept would have worked five years ago, and we also can\u2019t predict if it will still work five years from now. But right now, it clearly resonates,\u201d he adds. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">\u201cPeople are looking for more intentional, curated experiences that fit their lifestyle and stage of life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The rise of these party collectives is not the only cause for nightlife optimism in 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The cost of late-night transportation has been a long-running complaint among young adults who say they feel priced out of nightlife, especially after the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/life\/last-call-for-the-nightrider-bus-can-singapore-be-a-24-hour-city-without-it?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular inline\" data-testid=\"paragraph-test-id\">end of the NightRider bus service<\/p>\n<p><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The launch of a free 4am shuttle bus service from Clarke Quay to Jurong and Tampines is one experiment in offsetting costs.<b> <\/b>The year ahead will show whether <!-- -->it<!-- --> succeeds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">And among the string of nightlife closures, there was at least <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/life\/food\/the-story-is-not-yet-over-wala-wala-cafe-bar-to-stay-on-in-holland-village?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular inline\" data-testid=\"paragraph-test-id\">one surprising reversal<\/p>\n<p><\/a> in 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Wala Wala Cafe Bar at Holland Village announced in June that it would close after a 32-year run.
