{"id":25025,"date":"2026-01-02T00:50:37","date_gmt":"2026-01-01T16:50:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=25025"},"modified":"2026-01-02T00:50:37","modified_gmt":"2026-01-01T16:50:37","slug":"nus-professor-dismissed-over-sexual-misconduct-allegations-denies-wrongdoing-plans-to-appeal-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=25025","title":{"rendered":"NUS professor dismissed over sexual misconduct allegations denies wrongdoing, plans to appeal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\"><span><b>Calista Wong<\/b><\/span><span><br \/><\/span><span><b>The Straits Times<\/b><\/span><span><br \/><\/span><span><b>Dec 30, 2025<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">An NUS professor who was sacked after a disciplinary panel found him guilty of sexual misconduct has denied the allegations and said he plans to lodge an appeal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">Professor Shawn Chen Xiaoyuan, who was from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, was found to have flouted NUS rules governing staff conduct, a Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine spokes\u00adperson said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">The spokesperson, responding to queries, said Prof Chen&#8217;s employment with NUS was &#8220;terminated in accordance with his employment contract as he was found to have contravened the code of conduct for NUS staff&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">The Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine declined to provide further details.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">The professor, who specialises in diagnostic radiology, was sacked after a ruling by an NUS disciplinary panel that was convened when a student accused him of sexual misconduct.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">Prof Chen, who also had a position in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, told The Straits Times <span><a class=\"text-primary-500 hover:underline\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/nus-professor-dismissed-over-sexual-misconduct-allegations-denies-wrongdoing-plans-to-appeal\" target=\"_blank\">he was disappointed with the university&#8217;s decision<\/a><\/span> and plans to lodge an appeal in the hopes of overturning it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">He said: &#8220;I was made aware of the allegations on June 27 when I was back from a conference in the United States.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">The woman who accused him of sexual misconduct was his research assistant and a part-time student, he added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">NUS then carried out an internal probe, which started on June 30 and ended on Dec 19, he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">Prof Chen also said he did not have anything to do with posts published on Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu that sought to defend him.
