John Skelley cannot escape the pull of Harry Potter. It is as if something magical keeps them together.<\/p>\n

The stage actor was first hired to be an understudy of the grown-up wizard in Broadway\u2019s Harry Potter and the Cursed Child<\/em><\/span> in New York. Then he led the cast in San Francisco before the pandemic hit. He returned to Potter on a year-long national tour and now finds himself back on Broadway, with the role officially his.<\/div>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s like something that just kind of keeps coming back into my life,\u201d Skelley says. \u201cThere have been multiple times where I thought, \u2018Well, that might be the last time I do it.\u2019 And then the opportunity kind of keeps coming back.\u201d<\/p>\n

All this from a guy who was not initially a huge fan of Potter and the gang from Hogwarts. He had not read the books before auditioning, nor seen the stage show, although he had seen the films when visiting his now wife in graduate school while she was in class.<\/p>\n

Once he secured the role, Skelley quickly devoured the Harry Potter<\/em> books \u2013 one a week for seven weeks \u2013 and has listened to two different audiobooks. Harry Potter<\/em> is now front and centre.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
