{"id":22628,"date":"2025-12-24T10:47:35","date_gmt":"2025-12-24T02:47:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=22628"},"modified":"2025-12-24T10:47:35","modified_gmt":"2025-12-24T02:47:35","slug":"man-allegedly-involved-in-woodlands-fatal-scuffle-charged-with-assault","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=22628","title":{"rendered":"Man allegedly involved in Woodlands fatal scuffle charged with assault"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">SINGAPORE \u2013<!-- --> A man who was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/man-dies-after-woodlands-eatery-scuffle-suspect-to-be-charged-for-voluntarily-causing-grievous-hurt?ref=top-stories&amp;ref=inline-article\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular inline\" data-testid=\"paragraph-test-id\">allegedly involved in a fatal scuffle in Woodlands<\/p>\n<p><\/a> was charged on Dec 23 with one count of voluntarily causing grievous hurt to an elderly victim. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Teo Eng Chye, 57, is said to have got into a dispute with Mr Foo Suan Chew, 73, at the Fork &amp; Spoon food court at Block 768 Woodlands Avenue 6 on Dec 21 before it escalated into a scuffle. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Teo is accused of assaulting the older man, who suffered a fracture to a<!-- --> cartilage<!-- --> in his larynx and died later in hospital. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Court documents did not disclose how Teo allegedly assaulted Mr Foo to cause such an injury.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Police said in an earlier statement that they received calls for help at the eatery around 9.20pm on the day of the incident.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Mr Foo was unconscious when officers arrived<!-- --> at the scene<!-- -->, and he was taken to hospital where he died.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">On Dec 23, Teo was ordered to be remanded at the Woodlands Police Division. His case will be mentioned again in court on Dec 30.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">For voluntarily causing grievous hurt, an offender can be jailed for up to 10 years and fined or caned.
