{"id":22566,"date":"2025-12-24T05:59:01","date_gmt":"2025-12-23T21:59:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=22566"},"modified":"2025-12-24T05:59:01","modified_gmt":"2025-12-23T21:59:01","slug":"man-uses-phone-while-cycling-in-jurong-west-nearly-hits-elderly-woman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=22566","title":{"rendered":"Man uses phone while cycling in Jurong West, nearly hits elderly woman"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">A man who was cycling and using his mobile phone at the same time allegedly almost collided with an elderly pedestrian.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">Stomper <span><b>W <\/b><\/span>was on bus service 185 when he noticed a cyclist riding while on a phone call, holding his phone as he cycled.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">He shared a video of the incident that occurred near a coffee shop at Block 491 Jurong West Avenue 1.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">&#8220;He almost hit an ah ma and caused her to lose balance. He then cycled off,&#8221; said W.<\/p>\n<p><iframe class=\"video-container my-lg w-[620px] h-[349px]\" src=\"https:\/\/players.brightcove.net\/4802324446001\/default_default\/index.html?videoId=6386816262112\" title=\"#NoTapis\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">W then waited for the cyclist at the next bus stop to take &#8220;video evidence&#8221; and shared footage of the man cycling while holding his phone in one hand.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">According to the <span><a class=\"text-primary-500 hover:underline\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lta.gov.sg\/content\/ltagov\/en\/getting_around\/active_mobility\/rules_and_public_education\/rules_and_code_of_conduct.html\" target=\"_blank\">Land Transport Authority (LTA)<\/a><\/span>, using a mobile phone while cycling is a serious offence under the Active Mobility Act, and can result in fines of up to $1,000 for the first offence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">For repeat offenders, the maximum penalty doubles to a fine of up to $2,000 and\/or imprisonment of up to six months.
