They approved a landmark five-year plan to clean up Nepal\u2019s mountains, seeking to curb waste through stricter monitoring and limiting the number of climbers on <span data-qa=\"Component-Text\" class=\"css-0 ef9u0v00\">Mount Everest<\/span>, the world\u2019s highest peak.<\/div>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cThere was an absence of a unified document that clearly defined the responsibilities of several stakeholders who are involved and how to tackle the problem,\u201d said Jayanarayan Acharya, spokesman of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, tasked with implementing the plan.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cThis action plan addresses those issues and will help make waste management in the mountains more effective.\u201d<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Since Nepal\u2019s Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and New Zealander Sir Edmund Hillary first climbed Mount Everest in 1953, there have been more than 13,000 successful climbs to its peak.
