Revealed all the way back in September 2021, Marvel\u2019s Wolverine<\/strong><\/em> is finally going to be releasing next Fall. Its announcement was incredibly exciting, as were subsequent reveals about the narrative team having talent from Spec Ops: The Line<\/em>, a mature tone and rating, and more. Fans were also optimistic that the game wouldn\u2019t take long to release, as Insomniac had been rapidly dropping games in the late PS4 and early PS5 era. Unfortunately, a disastrous leak saw huge segments of Marvel\u2019s Wolverine<\/em> being shared with the public, as well as Insomniac\u2019s plans for the next several years and the studio\u2019s private info being publicized.<\/p>\n

Naturally, Insomniac Games needed time to secure its employees\u2019 safety, restructure its future plans, and deal with the fallout of quietly scrapped projects \u2014 like a promising Marvel’s Spider-Man<\/em> multiplayer game \u2014 now being public knowledge. There\u2019s a chance that parts of Marvel\u2019s Wolverine<\/em> were reworked, too, as rough drafts of gameplay segments, major plot beats, and huge surprises all got out. While it\u2019s taken some time, Marvel\u2019s Wolverine<\/em> is back on track and inching toward the end of development, so here\u2019s what to expect from the highly anticipated 2026 game.<\/p>\n

\n The Lead-Up to Marvel\u2019s Wolverine Will Likely Be Packed With Reveals

Considering how Fall doesn\u2019t begin until September, there will be at least eight months to build hype for Insomniac Games’ next superhero adventure. A dedicated State of Play close to release seems very likely, with the studio able to showcase the game\u2019s bloody combat in more detail than ever before. Though some costumes will surely be kept under wraps, Marvel\u2019s Wolverine<\/em> will likely pull back the curtain on a handful of its alternate suits, with the Deadpool and Wolverine<\/em> costume, Byrne\u2019s brown suit (which seemingly leaked already), and an X-Force variant all seeming like surefire additions. More characters will likely be revealed, too, be it Debra Wilson\u2019s Callisto, Brett Gibson\u2019s Sabretooth, or Jolean Kim\u2019s Lady Deathstrike. A collector\u2019s edition featuring a statue of Logan seems like another no-brainer, with the design potentially mirroring the statue from the original Marvel\u2019s Spider-Man<\/em> game and featuring nods to all the villains he\u2019ll face.<\/p>\n

Based on the Marvel\u2019s Spider-Man<\/em> series, some pre-order bonus costumes can be expected. X-Men 97<\/em> and Astonishing X-Men<\/em> looks have already leaked, and would naturally be good candidates.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/section>\n

\n Marvel\u2019s Spider-Man 2 Could Be the Model for Wolverine\u2019s Gameplay Demo

Given the sales success of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2<\/em>, Insomniac going a similar route with the marketing for Wolverine would make perfect sense. If it takes the same approach, a lengthy gameplay demo \u2014 likely at a State of Play or larger PlayStation Showcase \u2014 would be on the cards. Spider-Man 2<\/em>\u2019s demo featured gameplay of both Peter and Miles, showcasing the former\u2019s Symbiote abilities, as well as an epic chase sequence with the Lizard. It did cut off before the actual boss battle between Peter and his reptilian adversary, though, which is something to keep in mind for a hypothetical Wolverine<\/em> demo.<\/p>\n

A 10-minute segment of Marvel\u2019s Wolverine<\/em> could showcase raw combat against some basic enemies, highlighting Logan\u2019s different fighting skills, while also giving players a more clear direction of the story. Based on plot leaks, it seems like Logan will be trying to stop Omega-level Mutants from being captured by Mister Sinister, though Insomniac doesn\u2019t have to reveal all of this. Simply giving fans more of a narrative hook than they have now, while also highlighting gameplay, could do the trick. Featuring a chase sequence like the cinematic boat sequence that leaked, or something new, like Logan hunting a boss like Omega Red, could make for a solid way to cap off the footage.<\/p>\n

\n Marvel\u2019s Wolverine Will Likely Keep Some \u2018Surprises\u2019 Close to Its Chest

While the Insomniac leak already spoiled some of the biggest twists for Marvel\u2019s Wolverine<\/em>, such as a playable Jean Grey and Mister Sinister (played by Troy Baker) being the main antagonist, there\u2019s no reason Insomniac has to show the final versions of this content before release. There will be plenty of casual gamers out there who paid no attention to the leaks and will still be shocked by another playable hero or the actual main villain, as many would expect Sabretooth to be the main antagonist as opposed to an X-Men-level threat like Sinister. So while alternate Marvel’s Wolverine<\/em> costumes, some side characters, more combat, and a clear story premise are all valid candidates for reveals, Jean and Sinister could absolutely be kept under wraps until the game launches.<\/p>\n

However, while Insomniac\u2019s own game releases don\u2019t help with an estimate, there\u2019s one thing that does: Grand Theft Auto 6<\/em>. A true elephant in the room that has already panicked developers and led to release date changes, the multi-Game Award winner for Most Anticipated Game drops on November 19, 2026. Naturally, Insomniac Games will want to avoid this title\u2019s launch too, so dropping the title near the start of Fall, either in September or early October, would give it time to succeed. Considering how the last several Insomniac games have dropped on a Friday, September 18, 2026, it feels like a solid guess for Marvel\u2019s Wolverine<\/em>\u2019s release date.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Though it\u2019s certainly possible that Marvel\u2019s Wolverine<\/em> could be pushed back, especially with Insomniac\u2019s currently vague launch window of Fall 2026, though the studio recently doubled down on its release plans via a social media post in November. Insomniac also doesn\u2019t tend to delay its titles, and given how long Marvel\u2019s Wolverine<\/em> has been in the works, it\u2019s safe to assume that it isn\u2019t going to break that trend. Currently, all signs point to Marvel\u2019s Wolverine<\/em> releasing next year as currently planned.<\/p>\n
