This includes LG and Samsung, which have unveiled, among others, new products in the RGB LED TV category.

Though the names for the different screen technologies can get easily mixed up, RGB LED should not be confused with microLED. While microLED refers to a display made up of individually lit pixels, RGB LED displays still utilise a backlight, but replace the traditional white LEDs with a cluster of red, green and blue ones, hence the name.

In theory, this leads to high brightness, especially in comparison to OLED, as well as more vibrant colour reproduction. In practice, though, it’s still a nascent technology. Hisense was the first major manufacturer to bring it to market, revealing its 116UX TV at CES 2025, while Samsung followed suit with its equally huge 115-inch Micro RGB TV last August.

Samsung released its first RGB LED TV in August last year, though with only a 115-inch option at a whopping S$29,999.

Image: Samsung.

Onto the new announcements, though, LG is jumping into the fray at CES 2026 with its Micro RGB evo, which the company says is able to cover 100 percent of the BT.2020 colour space. It’s certainly an ambitious claim, but one not unlike Samsung’s claim when it launched its Micro RGB TV.

And like Samsung, LG is integrating AI technology into this TV, driven by the Dual AI Engine-based α (Alpha) 11 AI Processor Gen 3. Putting aside the mouthful of a name, the processor helps control each of the RGB diodes in the backlight, and also brings an upgraded form of AI upscaling called Dual Super Upscaling. In addition, there are also over a thousand dimming zones on the Micro RGB evo.

While we’ll certainly hear more about the Micro RGB evo in CES come January, we do know the sizes it’ll come in: 100-inch, 86-inch and 75-inch. It’s a lot better than the behemoths currently on market, though Samsung, on its part, isn’t sitting idly by. Countering to LG’s reveal, Samsung’s announcement regarding its RGB LED TV lineup centred on new sizes to complement its 115-inch model, going as low as 55-inches.

While the smaller sizes are certainly welcome for consumers, we don’t yet know the prices for these TVs. However, the cost of those currently on the market – S$30K for Samsung’s Micro RGB TV, and S$41K for Hisense’s 116UX – doesn’t offer much optimism. Given how it’s been a year since the technology debuted, though, we can only hope that manufacturing costs have gone down at least a little bit.

CES is returning in early January 2026, and already companies are dishing out details about what to expect in Las Vegas next month.
