{"id":21357,"date":"2025-12-19T18:30:39","date_gmt":"2025-12-19T10:30:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=21357"},"modified":"2025-12-19T18:30:39","modified_gmt":"2025-12-19T10:30:39","slug":"mandatory-caning-for-scammers-members-of-scam-syndicates-to-start-on-dec-30","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=21357","title":{"rendered":"Mandatory caning for scammers, members of scam syndicates to start on Dec 30\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span>SINGAPORE: Scammers, as well as recruiters and members of scam syndicates, will face mandatory caning of at least six strokes under amendments to Singapore&#8217;s criminal law set to take effect on Dec 30.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span>The additional punishment, aimed at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.channelnewsasia.com\/singapore\/scammers-syndicate-caning-criminal-law-parliament-5444461\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>increasing deterrence<\/span><\/a><span> against such crimes, has a maximum penalty of 24 strokes of the cane, said the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Friday (Dec 19).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span>&#8220;Fighting scams is a top national priority.
