SINGAPORE \u2013 The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) said on Dec 18 that it is extending a grant for employers offering part-time re-employment, flexible work arrangements and <\/p>\n

structured career planning for senior workers<\/p>\n

<\/a> by two more years owing to continued demand. <\/p>\n

The Part-Time Re-employment Grant (PTRG), introduced in 2020, will be extended until Dec 31, 2027, amid continued demand, MOM said in a statement.<\/p>\n

This is to \u201ccontinue supporting senior worker employment by providing financial support to employers to offer part-time re-employment to their senior workers\u201d, the ministry said.<\/p>\n

Applications, which previously closed in October, reopened on Dec 18.<\/p>\n

Under the grant, employers will receive $2,500 for every senior worker they hire, aged 60 and above, subject to a cap of $125,000 per employer.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince its introduction in 2020, the take-up of the PTRG has been encouraging,\u201d MOM said.<\/p>\n

More than 7,500 employers have tapped the grant to support their employment or retention of senior workers as at November, benefiting more than 65,000 senior workers, it added.<\/p>\n

More than $92 million has been disbursed through the grant since 2020.<\/p>\n

Any company registered or incorporated in Singapore \u2013 including societies and non-profit organisations such as charities and voluntary welfare organisations \u2013 can apply for the grant. <\/p>\n

The company needs to have at least one resident worker aged 60 years and above at the point of application and claim, according to MOM\u2019s website.<\/p>\n

The PTRG is part of measures aimed at strengthening support for senior employment. <\/p>\n

Other schemes include the Senior Employment Credit, which provides wage offsets of up to 7 per cent to employers that hire workers aged 60 and over.<\/p>\n

Older workers can also tap programmes such as the SkillsFuture Level-Up Programme and Workforce Singapore\u2019s Career Conversion Programme. <\/p>\n

In a statement on Dec 18, NTUC deputy secretary-general Desmond Tan said NTUC welcomed the extension of the grant and encouraged employers to use it to offer flexible work arrangements, so that their experienced senior staff can be retained \u201cwhile meeting their evolving needs\u201d.<\/p>\n

He said that seniors are a vital part of Singapore\u2019s workforce as they have \u201cvaluable skills and experience\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom NTUC\u2019s regular engagement with workers and unions, we understand that while some seniors prefer to continue in full-time roles, others have expressed a desire for reduced work hours during re-employment,\u201d said Mr Tan.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
