Two years after its premiere at the Shanghai International Film Festival, first-time director Chen Shizhong\u2019s rural drama Good Autumn, Mommy<\/em> finally makes it to Hong Kong screens, arriving at an auspicious time for leading lady Shu Qi<\/span>.<\/div>\n
The year 2025 has proven to be a banner one for the beloved Taiwanese actress, who earlier made her directorial debut with the semi-autobiographical Girl<\/em><\/span>. She also starred in Bi Gan\u2019s ambitious avant-garde epic, Resurrection<\/em><\/span>, as well as spearheading the Netflix drama series The Resurrected<\/em><\/span>.<\/div>\n

Set in 1995 in the sugar cane fields of Guangzhou, Good Autumn, Mommy<\/em> follows peasant farmer Fong-tai (Shu) as she gives birth during a violent typhoon, only for her baby to become mixed up with that of her husband\u2019s boss, Kang-ren (Zhang Benyu).<\/p>\n

The dilapidated shack in which Fong-tai and Kang-ren\u2019s wife, Lan-san (Lang Yueting), give birth side by side collapses during the storm, spilling both mothers and their babies into the nearby sacred pond.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
