iRobot<\/b>, the company behind the Roomba<\/b> robot vacuum cleaners, has filed for bankruptcy protection.<\/p>\n
In its official statement, iRobot stated it has entered a Restructuring Support Agreement (RSA) with its primary contract manufacturer, Shenzhen Picea Robotics Co., Ltd (also known as Picea<\/b>).<\/p>\n
Under the agreement, Picea will acquire iRobot<\/b> through a court-supervised process and receive 100% of iRobot\u2019s equity interests. This also means Picea now wholly owns iRobot, and iRobot is no longer listed on the Nasdaq Stock Market.<\/p>\nGG, what\u2019s gonna happen to my Roomba?<\/h2>\n
Despite the bankruptcy filing, iRobot will continue operating as usual<\/b>. The company will proceed with the product development roadmap and maintain its presence across global markets. <\/p>\n
More importantly, existing Roomba users are not expected to experience any disruption to app functionality<\/b> or product support<\/b>.<\/p>\n
Once the dominant player in the robot vacuum market, iRobot has struggled in recent years to compete with lower-priced Chinese brands. This led to a prolonged decline in profits. <\/p>\n
The US tariffs also did not help the company. Roomba robot vacuums were manufactured in Vietnam, which meant that iRobot has been significantly affected by a 46% import duty.<\/p>\n
The bankruptcy filing follows a failed acquisition attempt by Amazon.<\/b> Originally announced in 2022, Amazon wanted to acquire iRobot for $1.7 billion. That deal ultimately collapsed due to antitrust scrutiny and privacy concerns.<\/p>\n
