Larian Studios has released a free current-gen upgrade for Divinity: Original Sin 2 \u2013 Definitive Edition<\/em>, <\/strong>meaning fans of the award-winning RPG can now enjoy it natively on Switch 2, PS5, and Xbox Series X\/S. One of the highest-rated role-playing video games of all time, Divinity: Original Sin 2 <\/em>grants players incredible freedom of choice, engaging tactical combat, a deep story, rich world-building and, of course, a lot of RPG leveling, upgrading, and exploration.<\/p>\n

The epic RPG <\/em>series is high on many gamers\u2019 minds right now, thanks to the announcement during The Game Awards 2025 that Larian\u2019s next project is Divinity<\/em>, which was revealed by an attention-grabbing trailer that many feel was a highlight of the show. Described by CEO Swen Vincke as the studio\u2019s \u201cbiggest, most ambitious RPG ever,\u201d Divinity <\/em>will be the seventh installment in the popular series that first appeared in 2002.<\/p>\n

Since the reveal, fans of Baldur\u2019s Gate 3 <\/em>and deep, lore-based RPGs in general have been flocking back to play or replay Divinity: Original Sin <\/em>and its sequel. And with great timing, Larian has announced that a free current-gen digital upgrade for Divinity: Original Sin 2 <\/em>is now available to download for Switch 2, Xbox Series X\/S, and PS5. Though it\u2019s not clear what exactly was upgraded, players should expect to be able to enjoy the game at 60 FPS. Both the PS4 and Xbox One versions already support 4K resolution. And the game is currently on sale for all three current-gen platforms, with the PS5 version offering the biggest discount at $14.99 USD.<\/p>\n

Of course, those who want to take advantage of the offer must already own the game on Switch, Xbox One, or PS4. And eager fans should also note that this is not a remake or remaster of the original game but rather just an upgrade. And, unfortunately, PS4 and Xbox One disc gamers who now own the digital-only versions of either PS5 or Xbox Series X\/S will not be able to claim the free upgrades on those consoles because the disc is required to verify ownership.<\/p>\n

Like its predecessor, the turn-based tactical RPG was backed by fans and a successful Kickstarter campaign. Divinity: Original Sin 2 <\/em>arrived in 2017 and quickly became one of the most acclaimed RPGs of its generation. Reviewers praised its intriguing narrative and expansive world, as well as Divinity: Original Sin 2<\/em>\u2019s high degree of flexibility that made room for differing play styles and player choices. On review aggregate site OpenCritic, the fantasy game is sitting at a very comfortable 93 critic average and a 90 player rating. On Steam, Divinity: Original Sin 2 <\/em>has an Overwhelmingly Positive overall rating, based on more than 170,000 user reviews.<\/p>\n

While the lore may be easier to grasp for those familiar with the previous games, newcomers to Divinity: Original Sin 2 <\/em>can still jump in and equally enjoy the epic ride.<\/p>\n
