Apple <\/b>addresses this by adding a new\u00a0Edge Light<\/b>\u00a0feature to\u00a0macOS\u00a026.2<\/b> and later. This is a built-in option that virtually imitates a ring light on your Mac display<\/b> or monitor. <\/p>\n
Not only does it come free of charge with your macOS\u2019s video call apps (like FaceTime), you can also pair it with an external camera<\/b> (going beyond using your Mac device\u2019s built-in Continuity Camera webcam). There\u2019s also no need to grab another app for this feature.<\/p>\n
Also, it\u2019s shaped like an actual ring light, but that\u2019s not only for show. Edge Light uses the Apple Neural Engine component on your Mac\u2019s Apple Silicon chipset to detect your face shape, size, and location during the video call. The information is then fed into your Mac\u2019s image-signalling processor, which can select the brightness level to suit the scene (if auto-brightness is enabled).<\/p>\n
How to use Apple Edge Light in video calls<\/h2>\n

Edge Light is a lighting feature next to other Apple video call features, like Studio Light and Center Stage.\u00a0<\/p>\n You can toggle it on or off, choose between Automatic or Manually for brightness, and use the slider to adjust the brightness level. Also, it allows you to change the colour temperature to suit your skin tone and surroundings.<\/p>\n If you\u2019re using a display with a built-in camera up top, Edge Light will appear on that display.
