An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.7 hit Japan\u2019s northeastern region at 11:44am (local time) on Dec. 12. A tsunami advisory from the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) was issued after. This comes only days after a 7.5-magnitude quake hit the same region. The U.S. Geological Survey placed the epicentre about 130km northeast of Kuji in Iwate. JMA warned of a possible one-metre tsunami, although Japan’s national broadcaster NHK reported that no tsunami damage is expected. In a Facebook post on the same day, the Singapore Embassy in Tokyo advised Singaporeans to keep clear of coasts and river mouths and to continue evacuating until all advisories are lifted.
